"On May 8, 2010 descendants of Selkirk McCoy gathered at his gravesite in the Looney’s Curve Cemetery located along the Tug River in Mingo County, West Virginia to dedicate a military headstone for his service during the Civil War.
"Selkirk enlisted in the Confederate Army on December 31, 1862 at Smyth County, Virginia as a 2nd Sergeant. On May 1, 1863 Selkirk mustered into “E” Co. of the Virginia 45th Battalion Infantry. Selkirk rose to the rank of Lieutenant and took his Amesty Oath in Charleston, West Virginia on May 4, 1864. Selkirk also served with the local militia known as the Logan Wildcats.
Selkirk was the son of Asa McCoy and Eleanor Burris and was born March 5, 1830 in Paw Paw, Pike County, Kentucky and died June 25, 1908 near where he is buried. He married Louisa Williamson on September 20, 1850 in Pike County, Kentucky. Louisa was the daughter of John M. Williamson and Nancy Maynard. Selkirk and Louisa had fourteen children. Selkirk was a man of high integrity and wasn’t afraid to stand for what he believe. Besides mothers and fathers, Selkirk’s descendants became attorneys, medical doctors, nurses, teachers, engineers, prominent business people and merchants, ministers, law enforcement officers, coal miners, local and state elected officials, career military personnel, and farmers.
"As descendants gathered from Kentucky, Ohio, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia, a reading from the Holy Bible of Philippians Chapter 4 verses 4 though 13 was done by his great, great grandson, William J. McCoy, prior to a song being sung titled “Wish You Were Here” by his great, great granddaughter Opal Matney as part of the dedication. The family visited with one another and viewed other family graves that are in this cemetery.

"Virginia Bessie Bunn, 85, of Nokesville, died June 30, 2003 in the Northern Virginia Community Hospital, Arlington, Va.
Following a lengthy illness.
Virginia was born in Baileysville. She was the daughter of the late Jerry Short and Goldie Rose Short. In addition to her
parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband Claude Brunn and a sister Upha Cline. Virginia was a
devoted friend to many, enjoying time spent with all. She especially enjoyed playing bingo with her many friends. She is
survived by two sons, Jerry and wife Shirley of Pennsylvania; Jeffery and his wife Roxanne of Nokesville, Va.; one
daughter, Claudia Keefer of Cleveland, Ohio; three sisters, Tavie G. Reid of Manassas, Va., Phoebe Blankenship, of
Christianburg, Va. and Francis Jean Barrett and her husband Carl of Deland, Fla.; four brothers, Carmel Short and his
wife Frankie, Harry Short and his wife Monty, Curtis Short and his wife Betty all of Manassas, Va and Joe Short and his
wife Catherine of Baileysville. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.The family received friends at the Blasius Baker Funeral Home, 9320 West St., Manassas, Va. on Thursday, July 3, from
6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The family also received friends at her home church, Aspinwall Church of God 14627 Aspinwall Avenue,
Cleveland, Ohio on July 4, 2003 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services followed from 8 to 9 p.m. at the church. Burial was
the following day, July 5, 2003, in Knollwood Cemetery, Mayfield Heights, Cleveland, Ohio."
