"Veda Mae Brown Sheets, age 90, of Tazewell, Virginia, drew her last breath here on earth on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at her home following a lengthy illness."Veda was born in McDowell, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Lewis Walker “Brownie” Brown and Virginia Ratliff Brown. After graduating high school, she attended Bluefield Business College, where she received certificates in secretarial and accounting. Veda worked for Acme Market's main office, where she ran the IBM computing systems and did their bookkeeping for many years. She later worked for Bill Greever Corporation for several years as a secretary. She was a Cub Scout den mother in her spare time for several years. After retiring, she did not like not doing anything, so she became a babysitter for several families. Her son Carl was the joy of her life; she loved spending time with him and was blessed to have him as her caretaker for many years. Carl loved to tell people that his mother was his best friend, protector, and helper, and she was always there for him. Veda was the last survivor of her immediate family and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
"She is now reunited in heaven with her parents, her loving husband, Carl D. Sheets, Sr., and her siblings, Freda Stevenson, Wanda Capito, and Bud Brown, and her beloved Uncle Kenneth O. Brown, who took her in and raised her when she needed him.
"Her loving and doting son, Carl David Sheets, Jr., of Tazewell, Virginia, continues to carry on her loving spirit.

Interment will follow at the Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Virginia. The pallbearers will be Derek Stevenson, Don Crigger, Bryce Sparks, Ron Barton, Scott Cole, and Brandon Hoops. The family will receive friends from noon on Friday until the time of service.
