"Early on Thursday, June 20, 2024, Mrs. Ruby V. Dalton age 91, a long time resident of Gary, West Virginia, was called from labor to reward. She peacefully departed this life in the McDowell Healthcare Gary Center, following a long illness. Ruby was born on the 13th day of April, 1933 in Halifax, Virginia and the daughter of James and Harriett (Barksdale) Kates. Due to the illness of her Mother, Ruby was sent to live with her aunt, Mary Hill in Gary, who raised her as her own. After completing her education, she married Alfonzo Dalton. Together, they built a life time of love, devotion and trust. She was a faithful member, for many years of New Bethel Church of our Lord Jesus Christ in Gary. She loved the Lord and graciously served in many capacities. She was the Mother of the Church, a Sunday School teacher and treasurer of the Missionary Department. Always with a warm smile and kindness, she greeted others that were around her. Ruby will be remembered by her husband, Alfonzo Sr., as being a perfect wife and by her children as being a fantastic, loving mother. She was indeed an example of the Proverbs 31 woman, as she worked well with her hands. An excellent baker, cook and seamstress. At Church she was known as an outstanding tambourine player. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Beverly Hayes and six of her brothers and sisters: James, John, Leon, Robert, Mary and Catherine. Ruby will be greatly missed and always lovingly remembered by her husband of 75 years, Minister Alfonzo Dalton Sr., their children: Alfonzo Jr. and his wife, Dora Dalton of London, Ohio, District Elder Dr. Ronald B. Sr., and his wife, Gale Dalton of West Bloomfield, Michigan, Katrina A. Dalton of the home, and her adopted grandson, whom she helped his Mom (Katrina) to raise, Dr. Timothy L. and his wife, Preah Dalton of Wake Forest, North Carolina; one brother, Carroll L. Kates of Baltimore, Maryland; two sisters, Frances White of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and Sallie Walton of Clinton, Maryland; her 17 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces and cousins; both her Family and Church family she dearly loved. Mrs. Ruby Dalton's Homegoing Celebration of Life Service will begin at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Greater Mt. Zion Pentecostal Church 104 Park Street in Bluefield, West Virginia with District Elder Joseph Saunders eulogist and Suffragan Bishop Timothy A. Schofield presiding. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Interment will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 1, 2024 at Restlawn Memorial Gardens 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, West Virginia. Services for Mrs. Ruby V.
