"BERWIND — Gather Robert Rose, age 81, of Berwind, W.Va., died Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Carilion Tazewell Community Hospital in Tazewell, Va. Born Feb. 6, 1931 at Jacobs Fork in McDowell County, W.Va., he was a son of the late Glen Smith Rose and Martha Jane Davis Rose. He was a retired construction worker and enjoyed playing guitar and going to church. The last year of his life he spent with his close friends, Estil Click and Michael Sexton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty one years, Gladys Rose; three children, Hank Rose, Kenneth Rose and Patricia Pauline Rose; two sisters, Pauline Rose and Edith Lawson; two brothers, Sam Rose and Roy Lee Rose."Those left to cherish his memory are two sons, Everett Rose and wife, Brenda and Carrol Wayne Rose all of Berwind, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
"Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday April 25, 2012 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va. with Pastors Kathleen Stanley, Mac McGraw and Ralph Brewster officiating. Burial will follow at Hartwell Cemetery in Hartwell, W.Va. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Rose, Jason Rose, Brian Rose, Roy Rose Jr., Carson Salyers, and Tim McGraw.

Morgan of Princeton (Green Valley area), formerly of Iaeger (Beartown area) passed away, March 19, 2024 at the age of 96."Venia was born in McDowell County a daughter of the late Virgil and May Riffe Barton. Venia was a member of the Mission Ministries Church of Bluefield, WV and a former member to the Church of the Living God at Garland, WV. Venia was a retired LPN at Doctor’s Memorial Hospital in Welch; she assisted McDowell County teachers at Iaeger Jr. High School. Venia was a volunteer at Bluefield Regional Medical Center and was a volunteer in the grandparent volunteer program in McDowell County. Venia is also known for her delicious Banana Nut Bread.
"In addition to her parents, Virgil and May Barton; Venia was preceded in death by her first husband, Haltzy L. Mullins and her second husband Sampy D. Morgan; one sister, Florence Lowman and three nephews.
