She was a member of Man Church of God where she served as the church clerk for many years. Devoted to her family, Mildred was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother."She was born February 10, 1926 in McDowell County to the late Roy Buchanan (1892–1976) and Barbara E. Hurst-Buchanan (1907–1995). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Smith, Sr. (1916-1997); one sister, Helen Buchanan-Owens (Deceased); and two half sisters, Sindy B. Buchanan-Tipton (1911–2001) and Jane T. Buchanan (1915–1947).

Henry was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he was stationed in South Korea and attained the rank of Sgt. He worked as a Time keeper for Island Creek Coal Company. Henry was a member of the Man Church of God. He enjoyed spending time with his family."He was born on September 30, 1948, at Maitland, a son of the late Eugene Smith Sr. (1916-1997) and Mildred Marie Buchanan-Smith (1926-2012).
