1. Evans-Calfee Funeral Service; Oceana, WV; Posted Obit.
"Lewis was born on June 11, 1961 in Pineville, WV. He was a lifelong resident of Oceana, WV and he loved his hometown, community, and the people of Wyoming County."Daddy was very humble, very loving. He genuinely cared about everyone that he came in contact with, and would have given anyone anything of his if he thought they needed it. Daddy had a servant heart - he took care of people and put other people ahead of himself.
"He lived mostly a simple life, not in a negative sense, but in a positive one. He didn’t care about material possessions, but he was most interested in living a life pleasing to God, instilling that life in his children, and loving and being loved by his family and friends (and he was, deeply).
"He had a deep love for God and that was number one. He enjoyed listening to preaching, and talking the Bible. He talked often about his love for and relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. This showed in the way that he lived his life. One of the last Bible studies that we did, he was talking about the 10 lepers that Jesus healed and how only one came back to thank Him. That one would have been Dad, I believe. He was thankful for what God had done for him and for salvation - we talked about it often.
"Daddy loved nature and the outdoors. He loved to go fishing, hunting, ginsenging, or even going to cut wood, when he was able.
"He loved to study the weather, he was always able to tell everyone what the weather was going to be, several days ahead of time. I believe it was Daddy’s way of trying to help his friends and family.
'He loved playing guitar and mandolin and loved to play and sing with family. This became a multi-generational family tradition for us. What great memories we made doing this.
"He was very fond of the years that he worked at the Wyoming County Courthouse/Jail and he often told us story after story of his time working there.
"Dad was the smartest man that we knew.
"He was the strongest man that we knew.
"He was the kindest man that we knew.
"He loved to laugh and tell jokes. Everything was an opportunity for a good laugh.
"Lastly, he loved his family very deeply. It was a Godly kind of love. He always made sure that his family was taken care of and we can’t think of one time that Daddy ever put himself first.
"Daddy finished his course on 1/13/2024 surrounded by his family telling him how much they loved him, looked up to him, and were thankful for him. With them reading the Bible to him, and praying with him. He fought the good fight. He kept the faith. He has now no doubt joined in on that heavenly choir.
"He is preceded in death by his mother, Vivian Carbaugh Riffe Bailey, his father, Ernest Riffe, two brothers, Edward (Eddie) Lee Riffe and Clyde Steven Riffe, and a daughter, Jessica Lynn Riffe. Those left to cherish his memory and to continue to live in the legacy that he instilled in us all are: Karen Riffe of Oceana; His son and Bible study partner Jason Lewis Riffe and loving daughter in law who thought of him as more of a father and likewise more of a daughter by him, Kristy Lacole Riffe of Marlinton; A loving daughter and son in law Kristin Dixon and Corey Dixon of Beckley, a sister in law Debbie Riffe, and a host of loving family and friends.
"Lewis Karl Riffe was a very good man, the best.
"We will forever strive to measure up to the person that he was.
"He will be missed dearly until we see him on the other side of glory, but we rejoice that Daddy has made it home.
"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
I"n my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
"And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
"John 14:1-3
"We love you forever, Dad."
