"JOLO, WV - Charlie Fred Bales, 89, entered into eternity, Monday, February 11, 2013 from the Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, VA. He was surrounded by his loving
family. Charlie was a retired cola miner with over 47 years experience. He was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America for 32+ years, and a veteran of the United States Air Force. Charlie was a Christian of the Holiness faith and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards and going to cattle auctions. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas James and Gaye(Serber) Bales; his wife, Maudie Ethel (Payne) Bales; sons, Hobert Stacy and James Edward Bales; sisters, Flora Torres and Mary Spence; and brothers, Bascom Bales, T. J. Bales and John Bales. Survivors include his daughters, Karen Stacy, Wise, VA, Nancy Pruitt, Jolo, WV, Marilyn Bales, Wise, VA,
and Patricia Stacy and husband Bobby, Raysal, WV; sons, Billy Stacy and wife Doris, Burlington, NC, Don Stacy and wife Louise, Jolo, WV, Charlie Fred Bales, Jr. and wife, Doris, Jolo, WV, Walter Ray Bales and wife Hattie, Statesville, NC, Roger D. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 15, 2013 at the Jesus Church of Bartley with Reverend Pete Woods and Reverend Jimmy Kyle officiating. Burial will follow at the Hankins Cemetery in Richlands, VA where grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. "Charlie Fred Bales Jr. 68, of Jolo, WV, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2023 at his home, surrounded by his loving family, following a long battle with cancer."Junior was born February 8, 1955 in Jolo, WV a son of the late Charlie Fred Bales Sr. and Maudie Ethel Payne Bales. Junior enjoyed ginsenging, riding four wheelers and spending time with his family.
"In addition to his parents Junior was preceded in death by his infant son, Charlie Fred Bales III; three brothers, James Bales, Hobart Stacy, and Don Stacey; father and mother-in-law, Roosevelt and Gladys Rowe; and a brother-in-law, Chester Rowe.
"Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Doris Rowe Bales of the home; two children, Tonya (Richie) Justice of Panther and Greg Bales of the home; four brothers, Billy Stacy, Walter Ray Bales, Roger Bales and Jeffery Bales; four sisters, Marylin Bales, Nancy Bales, Sue Stacy and Patricia Sturgill; and numerous nieces and nephews.
"Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 4, 2024 at 1 o’clock with Pastor Jimmie Justus and Pastor Joey Rowe officiating at the Three Forks Church of God in Three Forks near Jolo, WV. "Bernard “Pappy” Collins, age 82, of Taylorsville, passed away after being ill for several months, on Sunday, December 24, 2023 at Valley Nursing Center."Bernard was born February 7, 1941 in Litwar, West Virginia, the son of the late James Harvey Collins and Stella Roberts Collins Justice.
"Bernard served in the US Army from 1959-1962. He was a coal miner for many years and later worked as a machinist for Jacksonlea Manufacturing. He traveled to many places and loved watching Westerns and playing bingo.
"Including his parents, he was preceded in death by: brothers, Jerry, Edward, and Herman Collins, Ralph Justice; sisters, Vickey Bailey, Louise Butler and Magdalene Holden.
"Those left to cherish and honor his memories include: his son, Jeff Collins (Danielle) of Taylorsville, NC; his daughter, Lisa Dant (Shawn) of Hiddenite, NC; his brother, Jack Collins of Panther, WV; his grandsons, Doug Reed (Sarah), Chris Tolbert, Austin Travis (girlfriend Trinity), Dalton Collins; his granddaughter, Kyra Byrd; very special niece, Teresa Auville (Speedy) of Iaeger, WV; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
