"Melvin Eugene Odom Sr. (Eugene), 71, of Hensey departed this life November 25, 2023 at Welch Community Hospital. Born November 23, 1952 he was the son of the late Charles Paul Odom an Anna Burita Odom. He was raised in McDowell County and was of the Pentecostal Faith. He was a former coal miner and Headstart school bus driver."In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his infant son Dennis Dewayne Odom; 3 brothers James, Charles and Bill Odom; 2 sisters, Linda Carter and Josie Cox.
"Melvin was a dedicated husband, wonderful father and grandfather (Peepaw) and friend to many. He was loving, kind, caring, helpful and respectful, and he never met a stranger.
"Those left to cherish his sweet memories are his loving wife Connie Odom of the home; son Melvin Odom Jr. and wife Heather, and daughter Jessica Roberts and husband Joey all of Hensley; three stepsons, Steven Potter of Welch, Keith Potter and wife Chaisty of Gary, and Kevin Potter and wife Jessica of Havaco; grandchildren Tylor, Emily and Brantly Odom, Hayden, Ethan and Paisley Roberts; 5 step grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and one great great granchild. He was a friend to every one and will be missed by so many.
"Funeral service will be conducted Friday, December 1, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Ark of Safety in Roderfield with the Rev. Danny Blackburn officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bluewell.
"Friends may call at the church Thursday, November 30 from 6-9 p.m.
