"Dortha M. Fowler, age 74 of Squire, WV died Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at Princeton Community Hospital in Princeton, WV. She was born July 8, 1937 at Berwind, WV and was a daughter of the late George and Amanda Duty Lambert. Dortha and her husband, Albert Fowler of Squire, WV, were married for fifty-six years. They enjoyed many happy years together. The members of her family were the loves of her life. She was a wonderful homemaker and loving mother. When her son graduated high school she decided to go to work in the clerk's office at the McDowell County Courthouse. During this time she was offered a position heading the then newly formed McDowell County Home Confinement Program; she served as Program Director for several years. Dortha also served a number of terms on the McDowell County Board of Education and as President of the Black Lung Association. Mrs. Fowler was of the Christian Faith and attended the Adria Community Church at North Tazewell, VA. Dortha was a great hostess and enjoyed serving meals to all of her family and friends; she will be sadly missed by her family and those who knew and loved her."In addition to her husband, Albert, survivors include one son, Rodney "Rocky" Fowler and wife, Becky of Thompson Valley, VA; two sisters, Shirley Wilson and husband, Ronald of Wadsworth, OH, and Anna Brewster and husband, Cecil "Butch" Brewster of Cecil, OH; two brothers, Bob Lambert and wife, Connie of Tazewell, VA, and Roy Lambert and wife, Carol of Lexington, SC; one grandson who was the sparkle of her eye, Brent Fowler and wife, Elaine of Belfast, VA; several other family members and loving friends also survive.
"Committal and Entombment Services for Dortha M. Fowler will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 24, 2011 at the Grandview Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel in Bluefield, VA with Mark Sexton and Martin West officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Lambert, Bruce Given, Ron Wilson, Cecil "Butch" Brewster, Dean Brown, Roger Beavers, Sam Beavers, Jim Sizemore, Mark Lowrance, and Dave Rose. There will be no public visitation prior to the committal services."
