"David Daniel Hicks, 69, of Paynesville, WV, died Saturday, August 6, 2016, in Clinch Valley Medical Center at Richlands, VA.
"David was born July 12, 1947, in Welch, WV, a son of the late John Redford and Mealie Pruitt Hicks. He was a member of the Old Regular Baptist Church for 30 years; a 32nd Degree Masonic member of the Iaeger Lodge; a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge for 50 years; an EMT for the McDowell County Ambulance and a caregiver at Southern Highlands. David was also a coal miner for 33 years and a member of the Bradshaw Volunteer Fire Department for 16 years.
"Survivors include his wife, Linda McClanahan Hicks of the home; two daughters, Charlotte Holton of Aberdeen, NC, and Kimberly Perry and husband Anthony of the home; three sons, David Hicks Jr. and wife Kathleen of Pine Knot, KY; Mark Hicks and fiancée Cynthia of Paynesville WV, and Terry Hicks and wife Jennifer also of Paynesville, WV; four brothers, John E. Hicks and wife Lexie and Willard Hicks all of Paynesville, WV, Ruben Hicks of Avilla, IN, and Harold Hicks and wife Judy of Kendallville, IN; three sisters Lissie Bailey and husband Clarence of Bradshaw, WV, Juanita Smith of Orange, VA, and Janice Goff and husband Jimmy of Grundy, VA; 16 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
"Funeral services will be conducted, Saturday, August 13, 2016, at 12 noon with Elder James Slone, Elder Randy Looney, Elder Elwood Cornett, Elder Steve Lyall, Elder Willy Stone and Elder Jerry Newsome officiating at the Little Flock Old Regular Baptist Church on Rockridge near Paynesville, WV. Burial will follow in the John R. Hicks Cemetery on Jewell Ridge Road near Paynesville, WV.

"Linda was born June 12, 1952 in Welch, WV a daughter of the late Holland Lawrence and Ocie Ellen Baker McClanahan. Linda was a longtime member of the Old Samariah Old Regular Baptist Church at Groundhog near Jolo, WV; Linda was a homemaker and a loving wife for 49 years to her late husband David Daniel Hicks, Sr. She held a vocational degree in business and was a longtime member of the Bradshaw Volunteer Fire Department and a Member of the Rebeka Lodge in Grundy, VA. She enjoyed time with her family grandchildren and special fur babies."In addition to her parents, Holland and Ocie McClanahan, Linda was preceded in death by her husband, David Daniel Hicks, Sr.; four brothers, Jimmy, Edward, Sonny and Everet McClanahan; and one sister, Polly Hess.
