"Curtis "Dale" Lester Sr., 83, of North Spring left this life on Earth for a much better one with his Heavenly Father on the evening of June 10, 2016 at the Cleveland Clinic Heart Institute in Cleveland, Ohio following a short illness. On April 30th, 1933, Mr. Lester was born in Barnabus, West Virginia as the son to the late Curtis Wayne Lester and Vida Elva Perry. Dale was born coal miner's son and spent his childhood growing up in the southern West Virginia hills. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He married "Bootie" and they spent their summers working together in Chicago to earn money for their college education. He received his undergraduate degree from Concord College and began his career as a devoted educator in the Wyoming County School system. Later, he returned to Marshall University, where he earned a Masters of Business Administration and School Leadership. He taught business education and served as a school administrator for 33 years. Most of his career was spent in the halls of Baileysville High School. It was common to see his smiling face at all the sporting events, as well as the bingo games he used to help support BHS. He was a clever individual and spent most of his time cutting up to put laughter in the room, as well as a smile on the faces around him. He and his wife attended the North Spring Independent Baptist Church in their home community of North Spring. Dale spent his time on Earth as a teacher and a craftsman. He was a jack-of-all-trades and especially enjoyed carpentry work, as well as showing off his green thumb in both flower and vegetable gardens. In his free time, he enjoyed riding his tractor, four-wheeler, trike, and jet ski. He loved traveling to new places, shopping, and spending time with family and friends. In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Gloria C. "Bootie" Parsons Lester, along with two brothers, Orville Eugene Lester and Charles Ronald Lester. Dale is survived by a daughter, Lisa Dawn Lester New and husband Randall, of North Spring; a son, Curtis Dale Lester Jr. of North Spring; two grandchildren, Donavan Randall New and Mackenzie Kalysa New of North Spring; and one sister, Mary Lou Robinette of Bluefield. Service will be 1 p.m. Friday, June 17th at the North Spring Independent Baptist Church with the Revs. Gary Justice, William Cook, and Jackie Lester officiating. Burial will follow in Iaeger Memorial cemetery, Roderfield...."

"In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Melda Runyon Davis; an only daughter, Patty Jane Davis Vinson; two sisters: Lola Lester and Bessie Tendale; four brothers: Oscar, Ora, Aubra, and Ezra "Red" Davis; and a special aunt, Bessie Davis.
"Gora was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, step-father, step-grandfather, step-great grandfather; brother, uncle, and friend. He was a disabled coal miner and the former owner and operator, for 31 years, of the Starlite Drive Inn. He was a charter member of the Verner Community Church, which was organized on January 29, 1950, serving as a Deacon, the church treasurer, and Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of the Verner Quartet. He was an honorary member of the Pads Fork Freewill Baptist Church at Steeles for the last 13 years. His wonderful smile and his loving and kind ways will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
