"Born August 18, 1958 in Welch he was the son of the late Mack and Virginia Shumate, and was a life long resident of Big Jenny Hollow in Davy. Jeff was employed at Walmart and took pride in his work. He was loved by all his co-workers.
"In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Warreny Shumate and Brice Shumate.
"Those left to cherish his memory are four sisters, Veronica Mitchell and husband Paul of North Welch with whom he made his home, Beverly Peake and husband David of North Welch, Ginger Carter of Roderfield, and Margo Stevenson and husband Ed of Harrogate, TN; one brother, Denvail Shumate and wife Charlotte of Lenore, NC; and a host of nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
