"Roger Lee “Pete” Reed, 72, of Welch passed away Sunday, August 9, 2015 in Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, NC.
"Born October 8, 1942 in McDowell County he was the son of the late Worley Reed and Catherine Farmer Reed. He was a retired coalminer, and was a former driver for the McDowell County Commission on Aging. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and was a member and past Commander of American Legion Post 8 in Welch. He was selected as “Legionnaire of the Year” for 2014-2015 by American Legion Auxiliary Unit 8. He was also a member of Welch 40 & 8 1171 and was elected Chef de Gare for 2015-2016. He was affiliated with the First United Methodist Church in Welch.
"Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Terry R. Reed of the home; three daughters, Jessica Reed Mullins and husband Hubert L. Mullins of Welch, Tammy Reed of Bluefield, and Rhonda Coleman of Rocksboro, NC; a brother, Bill Reed and wife Darlene of Gary; and seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
"It was his request to be cremated and his family has honored his request.
