"Arnold Dewey "Mutt" Griffith, 92, of Oceana, WV passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 19,
2017 at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, WV. He was born on November 3, 1925 in Oceana, WV a son
of the late Algie Griffith and Delphia Chambers. Arnold attended Family Praise and Worship Center
in Oceana. He was a member of the United States Army and served in the Korean War and World War
II. He was a coal miner for 30 plus years, finishing his service with EACC at Kopperston #2. He was a
electrician and a mine foreman. He was a member of Local Union 7604. In his earlier years, he
enjoyed fishing, bowling, and pitching horseshoes. He was inducted into the WV Horseshoe Pitchers
Association Hall of Fame in 1990. He enjoyed walking thru town, mowing grass, and playing games
with his children and grandchildren. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by an infant
sister Mamie Ruth; a son Arnold David; and an infant granddaughter Julie Kristine Gibson. He is
survived by his loving wife of 70 years Edna, who loved babying him; a daughter Debra (Jimmy)
Gibson of Oceana; two sons Steve (Margetta) Griffith of Lancaster, TX and Jimmy (Shelia) Griffith of
Charleston; six grandsons David Wayne (Ann) Griffith of Ft. Worth, TX, James Scott Gibson of
Leland, NC, Cory Shane (Catherine) Griffith of TX, Sean Christopher Griffith of TX, Jeremy Alan
Griffith of Charleston and Joshua Aaron Griffith of Charleston; three granddaughters Shelley Marie
(David) Zacek of Leland, NC, Amy Leigh (David) Price of Kopperston and Sara Nicole (Jared) Harless
of Oceana; five great grandsons David Michael Zacek of Leland, NC, PFC Nicholas Scott Zacek who is
stationed in Okinawa, Japan, Benjamin Hunter Price of Kopperston, Isaac Blake Price of Kopperston
and Cory Shane "CJ" Griffith, Jr. of TX; two great granddaughters Chloe Elizabeth Harless of Oceana
and Jenna Faith Harless of Oceana; a sister Florene Sloan of OH; his cat Gracie; and a host of other
loving family and friend. Funeral services will be held at Noon on Wednesday November 22, 2017 at
the Oceana Freewill Baptist Church, Oceana, WV with Pastor Timmy Brewster and Bro. Johnny
Maynard officiating. He will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV..."

"She was born in Bartley, W.Va., daughter of the late Ernest and Blanche MacArthur Jarrett Woody, and was the widow of
James M. "Buddy" Holloway Jr. She was a member of State Street United Methodist Church."Survivors include two sons, James M. "Jay" Holloway III and his wife Libby of Beaufort, S.C., and David N. Holloway and his wife Penny of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a brother, Dave Woody and his wife Pat of Bristol Virginia; three sisters, Anna Quesenberry of Tampa, Fla., Frances Beavers of Nashville and Mary Alice Pruitt and her husband Jim of Little Rock, Ark.; three grandchildren, Andrew J. Holloway, Christopher D. Holloway and Tyler David Holloway, and several nieces and nephews.
"The funeral service will be conducted at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at State Street United Methodist Church, with Rev. Fred Dearing and Rev. Sharon Wiley officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. Entombment will follow in the Heritage Chapel of Memories Mausoleum in Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to State Street United Methodist Church, 300 West Valley Drive, Bristol, VA 24201, or to The Baptist Church of Beaufort, Challenge to Build Fund, 600 Charles St., Beaufort, SC 29901.
