"Junise A. Abbington, 70, of Thorpe, WV; went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 23, 2007 at his home. Junise A. Abbington (Big A), was born on August 2, 1937. He was the son of the late William Judson Abbington and Selena B. Wright Abbington of Gary, WV."He was also preceded in death by four sisters: Stella Richardson, Elizabeth Robertson, Ophelia White and Evelyn Bagley. He was a lifelong resident of the Kimball and Gary, WV. He attended Gary schools, McDowell County and was an employee of U.S. Steel Mining Corporation for 20 years and a believer of the holiness faith.
"He leaves to mourn, Margaret Abbington, his wife of 36 years; two daughters: Lesia Lane of Columbus, Ohio, and Shonea Abbington of North Carolina; his precious granddaughter, Tionna Abbington and Essence, whom he won't get to see. He leaves behind: two brothers, William "Sonny" (Juanita) Abbington and Wilbur Abbington; three sisters: Aretha Horton of Knoxville, Tenn.; Lena Cummings of Columbus, Ohio, and Nancy Kannie of Philadelphia, Penn.; and a host of nieces, cousins, nephews and friends.
"Funeral services were conducted Saturday, December 29, 2007 at 12 noon from the Greater Mount Zion Pentecostal Holy Church of Bluefield, WV with the Rev. Roger Walton officiating. "Wilbur James "Snook" Abbington Sr., formerly of Gary, W.Va., made his transition from this life on Friday December 10, 2010, at the Virginia Veterans Care Center in Roanoke, Va. He was born August 23, 1928, in Gary, W.Va. to the late William J. and Selena B. Wright Abbington. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Ophelia White, Evelyn Bagley, Aretha Horton, Elizabeth Robinson and Stella Richardson; and two brothers, James and Alphonso Abbington. He accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and joined Apostolic Temple in Gary, W.Va. He attended Gary Elementary and Gary District High School. After high school he was employed by US Steel Coal Company in Gary. He left to serve his country in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952 and returned to employment with US Steel where he became a Certified Mine Foreman. He continued to work in that position there and in other mining companies until retirement. Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Dr. Wilbur James Abbington Jr. (Jimmie), of Stone Mountain, Ga.; two sisters, Lena Cummings, of Columbus, Ohio, and Nancy Henderson, of Philadelphia, Pa.; brother, William L. Abbington Sr., of Elbert, W.Va.; former wife and caregiver, Ann Abbington Barlow; and a number of nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at Greater Mount Zion Pentecostal Church, 104 Park St., Bluefield, W.Va. with Bishop Clarence E. Moore officiating. The eulogy will be given by Bishop Samuel R. Moore, Pastor of the Full Gospel Assembly of Huntington, W.Va. and Presiding Bishop of the West Virginia and East Tennessee Council, District 23 of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral and the interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Bluewell, W.Va. Friends may call for viewing from noon until 5 p.m. at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home. Published in Roanoke Times on December 19, 2010"
