"Judy Marie Walls Thacker, of Kopperston WV, entered Heaven’s glory on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at the age of 68 years, while surrounded by her loving family."The oldest of nine children, Judy and her brothers and sisters shared a love of music with their parents; and grew up ministering in gospel song known as the singing Walls Family. She began to play piano at an early age, and her hands were anointed for God’s work. As an accomplished pianist, she taught private lessons in her home for many years. Throughout her life, she shared her gift of music with the congregations at Justice Baptist and Lacoma Baptist, and served as the church pianist for Oceana First Baptist, and Cyclone Missionary Baptist, where she maintained her membership. Her talents in the world of music stretched far beyond her voice and piano. She enjoyed playing the accordion and wrote several gospel songs, also lending her talents to other local writers by developing sheet music for their lyrics.
"A 1967 graduate of Oceana High School, Judy attended Marshall University for two years. She was married to John Thacker in 1970 and they were blessed with three daughters. Together they owned and operated the Oceana Christian Bookstore, serving area churches for several years. After devoting many years to raising her family, she returned to her studies obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Concord College in 1990.
"Judy was employed by the Wyoming County Board of Education for twenty-three years beginning as a traveling Music teacher in early years, and later teaching at Huff Consolidated and Road Branch Elementary where she retired. Her love for children was evident in her service as an early educator; and most especially displayed in her role as a Grandma.
"Judy is welcomed into her heavenly home by her father and mother, Guy and Virginia Walls and her precious niece Lindsay.
"Family left to cherish her memory are her husband of forty-seven years – John; three loving daughters, Jennifer Thacker of Charleston, Catrina Thacker of Kopperston, Andrea Brown and husband Matthew of Kopperston, and two granddaughters Madalyn and Rylee Brown who were the joy of her life; two brothers – Merle Walls and Becky of Cyclone, Stephen Walls and Kati of Pineville; six sisters – Sharon Stewart and Joe of Crouch’s Farm, Brenda Samples and Eddie of Oceana, Linda Philpot and Keith of Cyclone, Virginia (Lu) Boggs and George of Matheny, Cindy Staton and Larry of Matheny, Stephanie Bailey and Tim of Oceana; nephews Tom, Russell, Devon, Daniel and Samuel; nieces Mary, Melinda, Misty, Kara, Lauren, Hannah, and Leslie; brothers in law Walter Thacker and Vera Louise of Milford Ohio, Joe Thacker and Debbie of Shady Spring, Danny Thacker and Malinda of Beckley, and Donna Thacker (the late Roger Thacker) of Mainville, Ohio. Thacker family nieces and nephews Kevin, Brian, Terra, Nicholas, Joel and Kristy; aunts Charlene Acord, Wanda Cook, Jeanette Toler and their families; and a host of cousins and other family and friends who loved her.
"We are truly blessed to call her Wife, Mother, MaMaw, Sister and Aunt.
"The family extends a special thanks to Judy St. Clair for her friendship and loving care, Cyclone Missionary Baptist and extended church family, and many friends and neighbors for the love and support shown to us during this difficult time.
"What rejoicing there must be on the other side! We are thankful to know that she now rests in God’s arms as He must have embraced her. How sweet to know that her beautiful voice now joins in that heavenly choir. Well done thou good and faithful servant. You’ve fought a good fight…you’ve kept the faith. Welcome home!"
