"t's with great sadness that I tell you that our dear Mother, Ada May Preece Allen Farley, passed away in her sleep early this morning December 13, 2016. She is in the arms of Jesus now; as she lived her very long and eventful life here on earth for 93 years, and almost 5 months. She is the eldest daughter of Cornelius Anderson “Carl” & Pearl Kirk Preece, born in Lovely, Martin Co. KY on July 15, 1923. Ada May was born at home and weighed in at 11 lbs! (There was a grocery store nearby with a scale!)
She met a next door neighbor boy at the age of 11 years and he was a teenager by then and she said she never forgot the day she first saw him. He had dark hair and deep brown eyes and it’s a moment that stayed in her memory. She married (that next door neighbor) Roy Cecil Allen, Sr on January 24, 1942 at The First Baptist Church, Williamson, Mingo Co, WV. Mammaw Preece got her a trousseau from Brown’s Clothing Shop, Williamson! She and Dad had their wedding night at The Mountaineer Hotel, Williamson, WV.
Roy Cecil Allen, Sr. was in the military and it was wartime. Pearl Harbor had just happened the month before they married and they were off to Washington, DC shortly after their wedding. They lived the Army life for many years and travelled all over the world including places like Libya and Africa.
She had six children: Maida Allen Klenner, John W. Preece, Roy C Allen, Jr, Victoria Allen-Scott, Melinda Allen Grimes & George W. Allen. She left many offspring to include her children, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren with more descendants in the future. To my sweet little Mommy whom I love very much-now they have a beautiful angel in heaven. Rest in peace with all your family in heaven and with Daddy; we love you and miss you."

"Roger “Porky” Lee Ward, 78, of Pineville, WV, passed away on March 4, 2022. Born December 1, 1943, in Freeburn, KY, he was the son of the late Robert Grayson and Pearl Ward. After graduation from Pineville High School in 1963. He worked in the coal mines and ran a small business known as Porky’s Mower Service until his retirement. After retirement you could find Roger in the woods hunting, on a river fishing, in the mountains riding, tending to his garden and making sawdust in his workshop. Roger spent many hours outdoors, his happy place, and in fellowship with his Christian community. It also meant so much to him spending time with family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Sue Ward; five brothers, Bill Ward, Frank Norman, John Henry Norman, Lawthie Ward and Walter Norman; eight sisters, Gartha Mayhorn, Janet Norman, Juanita Wolford, Lula Nunn, Pauline Adkins, Pearl Marie Lyons, Ruby Norman and Sue Baugh. Those left to cherish his memory include his two daughters, Tracey Ward, of Roanoke, VA, and Kimberly Ballowe and husband, Stacey, of Blacksburg, VA; his pride and joy, granddaughter, Lilly Elizabeth Ballowe of Blacksburg, VA; brother Bob Ward and wife Carol of Beckley, WV; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, a loving community and many special friends that adored him."
