He was killed due to a mine accident whereby slate fell on him and fractured his skull.He was married to a woman named May Allen at the time of his death. His first wife, Martha Keane Allen died in 1933 and they had two children: Samuel and Leander Allen. He is buried in a cemetery in Jamboree, KY.but I don't know the name of the cemetery."
