"Harold Williams
BIRTH 10 Apr 1926
Watts, Adair County, Oklahoma, USA
DEATH 30 Nov 2007 (aged 81)
BURIAL
Klickitat Cemetery
Mossyrock, Lewis County, Washington"
Obit Posted:
"Harold (Beef/Bob) Williams went home to be with his Savior on Friday, Nov, 30, 2007. He loved his God, family, community, and country. Born in Watts, OK, on April 10, 1926, his family followed other family members to Ajlune, WA, when he was a toddler."The only time he lived away from Lewis County was during Army training in Kansas, Texas, and Georgia, and when he served in Northern Italy during World War II. Once he returned home after the war, he vowed to never leave again.
"He served his community in a variety of capacities including two terms on the Mossyrock City Council and one term as mayor, which was shortened because of health problems. He was a founding member of the Mossyrock Search and Rescue, the first such unit in the state of Washington, and was a member of the Mossyrock Fire Department and Aide Crew. He also spent time as an auxiliary deputy with the Lewis County Sheriff's Office and for the City of Mossyrock.
"He was a deacon and Sunday School teacher in both the Mossyrock Community Church and the Richland Valley Church in Ajlune; he served for a short time as a lay minister for the Ajlune congregation. He also was well known for his musical talents, often singing in church and at funeral services and performing with a local country-western band. When his health forced him to retire from his business, he designed and built stringed instruments.
"Another of his loves was sports. He played football, basketball, and baseball in high school. He had a scholarship to Washington State University and also was scheduled for tryout with a major league baseball scout when World War II interrupted his plans.
"While in the Army he played football, and when he returned from the war, he played semi-pro baseball for the local team, the Outlaws.
"He also loved young people and was active for several years in the Lewis County Youth Christian Crusade and enjoyed serving with Evelyn as a chaperone for the Mossyrock High School band and cheerleading staff at the state basketball tournaments.
"As a local business man, he built or remodeled a number of local houses and buildings (including the recently demolished school grandstand), and he built pickup canopies, campers, and recreation vehicles for a number of local residents, as well as providing service for RVs and snowmobiles for several years.
"He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Evelyn, his daughter Wendy Williams, and son and daughter-in-law Shon and Denise Williams, all of Mossyrock; a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Judi Williams, Vader; and a daughter and son-in-law Breta and Nathan Faussett, Lacey.
He had seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. They include Nicotie and John Botthoff and their children Alena, Isaiah, and Aanya of Raymond, Minnesota; Trissa and Scott Armstrong and their son Scotty of Colville, Washington; Shane and Nathalie Williams and their son Sebastian of Sacramento, California; Sasha and Jim Barbour of Colorado; Tyler Williams of Winlock, Erin Williams of Vader, and William Faussett of Lacey."He considered Cecil and Eva Christian a brother and sister, although not by birth. He had several of what he called "adapted" children including Brock Sharo, Mossyrock; Jerry Rader and Russell Larson, Winlock; Lisa and Madeline Nixon, Salkum; and the "girls" at Liberty--Lindsay Dunlap, Tiffany Poe, Tarah Royle, and Cara Reed.
"He also had several brothers- and sisters-in-law, Donald Robison of Mossyrock; Leonard and Shirley Robison and Dorothy and Larry Hayden, all of Tacoma; Mary and Ted Blattenbauer of Kent; and Marjorie Robison of Seattle, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
"He was preceded in death by his father Elbert (Zeke) Williams, his mother Nicotie (Lester) Williams, his sister Loretta Smith, his brother Horace (H.E.) Williams and his wife Della, a daughter Candice, a nephew Johann Williams, and a sister- and brother-in-law Eleanor and Gerald Taylor.
"Services, under the direction of Brown Mortuary, will be held at the Mossyrock Community Church on Friday, Dec. 7 at 1 p.m., with interment to follow at Klickitat Cemetery. There will be a potluck dinner in the church basement following the services for anyone who wishes to attend.
"In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Mossyrock Scholarship Fund at P.O. Box 438, Mossyrock, WA 98564 or to the Mossyrock Search and Rescue at P.O. Box 525, Mossyrock, WA 98564.
