"Malena Dawn Hicks, 43, of Welch, WV, passed away, Sunday, May 20, 2018, at her residence.Born, November 10, 1974, in Welch, WV, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Sue Sweeney Potter. She was a resident of Welch the greater part of her life, she was a loving stay at home mother, and she was of the Pentecostal faith.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Billy Hicks.Survivors include, her husband Willbert Addair Jr, of Welch WV, one daughter, Alexandria Hicks of Welch WV, one son, Willbert Addair III of Welch WV, three sisters, Eden Hicks of Princeton, WV, Noel Payne of Huntington, WV, Athena Jewell of Panther, WV, one brother, Ryan Rowe of Bradshaw, WV.Memorial Services will be conducted, Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 4 P.M. from the Fanning Funeral Home Chapel in Welch WV, with Minister Johnny Stumbo officiating...."

"Helen Marie Cook McGinnis, 95, of Oceana, passed away Friday, May 18, 2018 at Bowers Hospice House in
Beckley after a long battle with Crohn’s Disease. Helen was born on November 18, 1922 at Peach Tree near
Naoma to the late Reverend Byrd G. and Belva Cook. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in
death by her husband of 60 years, Alfred “Jack” McGinnis, a son Roy Roger (Julia) McGinnis of Dry Creek, a
daughter, Betty Rose (Guy) Cox of Gastonia, North Carolina, a sister, Ruth Bone (Giles) of Flint, Michigan,
two brothers, Louie (Virginia) Cook of Tipton, Iowa and David “Bill” Cook of Fairdale. She will be forever
missed by her daughters and caregivers Joyce Jean Sabatino and Jacquelyn Ann “Jackie” Whitley of
Oceana, her son James Ross (Joyce) McGinnis of Huntington, and her sister Fern (George) Wood of
Beckley. Helen leaves eleven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and three great great
grandchildren who adored her. She will also be missed by her dogs Zoey and Susie, and fourteen cats,
especially “Baby” and “Smokey”, each of whom were given to her or abandoned on her doorstep. Helen
felt a great calling to care for God’s creatures, especially unwanted animals. Helen lived her early years at
Dry Creek, working the family farm, raising a family, and playing piano at Dry Creek Freewill Baptist
Church. She and Jack moved to Oceana (Crany) in 1968 where he worked at the Kopperston #2 mine until
retirement. As recently as last summer, Helen could be seen mowing her three-acre yard on her faithful
Cub Cadet and working her beautiful flower gardens. She attended Crany Missionary Baptist Church when
she could and enjoyed the fellowship of her neighbors. Services will be held Friday, May 25, 2018 at
Stafford Family Funeral Home at Lynco. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by the funeral at 1:00
with Reverend Charles Cook officiating. Helen will be buried at the Cook Family Cemetery at Peach Tree
near the home place where she was born...."
