"PRINCETON — E.C. "Pete" Artis, 70 of Quail Valley Estates, Princeton died Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Princeton Community Hospital.
Born April 13, 1943, at Cucumber, he was the son of the late Thomas Artis and Carolyn Pennington Artis.
Pete was a graduate of Big Creek High School, Class of 1961. He then entered the Army and was stationed in Korea.
He graduated from the WV State Police Academy, Institute, WV and was first stationed in Wheeling, transferred to Fairmont and finished his career with the Princeton Detachment with nearly 30 years of service to the citizens of WV.
He continued his career in law enforcement by working with the U.S. Marshal Service in Bluefield.
He was a member of the Princeton Church of God, and had served as the Clerk of the church along with teaching classes on Wednesday evening at the church.
Pete was an avid fisherman, having competed in many tournaments throughout the region. He also enjoyed speed boat racing and riding his motorcycle.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 42 years, Elizabeth "Liz" Dash Artis; one sister, Carlen Reed of Omaha NE; and his extended family whom he thought of as his family, Ron Dash, of Bluefield VA; Rose Dash Smith of Gainesville GA; Brenda Dash of Bluefield VA; and John Dash of Newark DE, and a special nephew, Larry Barber of Pineview GA.
A service to celebrate the life of Pete Artis will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, August 9, 2013 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Fred Farley and Dr. Ray Hurt officiating.
Friends may visit with the family Friday from 1:00 PM until the service hour at the funeral home.
