"Clinton “Skeeter” Ivan Fields, 75, of Newhall, WV, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2024 at his residence. Born March 25, 1949 in Newhall, he was the son of the late Charlie Fields and Sallie Sutherland Fields.

"Clinton was a coalminer with Consol Mining Company. He was a graduate of Big Creek High School and a member of the Newhall Advent Christian Church in Newhall. He loved gardening, fishing and going to church. He was known for his patience and humbleness. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters.

"Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Mary Helen Fields of the home; one son, Clinton Ivan Fields Jr. of Princeton; two daughters, Sally Dillow and husband Mike of Wytheville, VA and Angie Lester and husband Elbert of Newhall; two sisters, Dollie Matney and husband Lawrence of Newhall and Carrie Hicks of Mallory, WV; a special daughter-in-law, Heather Fields of Princeton; grandchildren, Breanne Fields, Brayden Fields, Jada Lester and Autum Lester; many nieces and nephews and “bonus” children who grew up and spent a lot of time at the home; and a beloved granddog, Charlie.

"Funeral services will be conducted Friday, May 3, 2024 at 11:00 AM from the Newhall Advent Christian Church in Newhall with the Reverend Teddy Ogle, officiating. Burial will follow in the Grandview Memorial Gardens in Bluefield, VA, where Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Iaeger V.F.W. Post 1144 of Iaeger.

"Friends may call at the church Thursday after 6:00 PM.

"Pallbearers will be family and friends.

"Born April 21, 1929 in Gilbert she was the daughter of the late Dexter and Jeanette Wingo. Evelyn attended Big Creek High School in War leaving during her senior year eloping to New York to marry her husband of 36 years, James Lee Porter who preceded her in death in 1983.
"Evelyn was always found faithfully serving the Lord. Over the years she attended Warriormine and Canebrake Freewill Baptist Church, as well as the War Pentecostal Church where she served as church secretary. She will be best remembered for the loving kindness shown to all she met.
"She had a servant’s heart and spent many years working with the public at the War Laundromat, Effie Market and the WarriorminePost Office. She was also a special caregiver to many children in the War area.
"In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a sister Ruth Vest; brother Thomas “TC” Wingo; son-in-law Allen Brewster; grandson-in-law Terry McCann; and daughter Jacqueline Porter. The greatest heartbreak of her life was the tragic loss of her only son Thomas Lee Porter at the young age of 17.

She was a CNA for over 25 years. Jackie liked to crochet, sew and visiting her mother, whom she dearly loved. She enjoyed riding four-wheelers in the woods.
