"Luther O. Dyer Sr., 83, of Madison, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at his residence."He was born Dec. 20, 1927, in Cuzzie, W.Va., the son of Shelby and Tokie Blevins Dyer. He was raised and attended school in Lincoln and Logan counties in West Virginia. He served in the Air Force in the occupational forces in Germany during the Korean War. He was employed early in life with O'Dell Welch Electrical and moved to Madison in December 1954. He retired after 37 and a half years with Public Service of Indiana (now Duke Energy) as a lineman and crew chief. He attended the First Assembly of God Church in Madison. He was a 50-year member of Union Lodge No. 2 F & AM and a 49-year member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis. He was also a member of the Madison Elks Lodge No. 524 and Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and being with his family and friends.
"He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Delores Maxine Buchanan Dyer, whom he married June 7, 1950; one son, Luther O. Dyer Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn.; three sisters, Frances Baker of Batavia, Ohio, Helen Mahan of Fenton, Mo., and Hazel Barsha of St. Louis, Mo.; two brothers, Jennings Dyer of Lebanon, Ohio, and Scott Dyer of Virginia Beach, Va..; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
"He was preceded in death by one son, Johnny Lujack "Bucky" Dyer, who died June 10, 1977; his parents; one brother, Homer Dyer; one sister, Peggy Dyer; and two infant sisters.
'The funeral was at the First Assembly of God Church. Burial was in Grandview Memorial Gardens. Military honors were conducted graveside by Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion.
