"Rita Franklin, 67, of Davy WV, passed away, Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at Welch Community Hospital in Welch WV, after a yearlong battle with breast cancer. Born March 20, 1953 in Welch WV, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Ruby Marie Green Chaffins.She was a lifelong resident of McDowell County. She was of the Pentecostal faith. She was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and a friend to everyone.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, David Chaffins, one sister, Faye Kelly, one nephew Keith Chaffins, two infant children.Survivors include, her husband of forty nine years, Russell Franklin of Davy WV, two daughters, Angie Gillespie and husband Doug of Welch WV, Jeannie Frasher and husband Jeffrey of Twin Branch WV, grandchildren, Derek Gillespie and wife Kierston, Kaitlyn Clemins and husband Tyler, Emily Frasher, Matthew Frasher, and Madison Frasher, one great grandchild, Sophia Gillespie, four brothers, John Chaffins of Gilbert WV, Brady Chaffins and wife Carol of Marytown, WV, Fred Chaffins and wife Judy of Marytown, WV, Darrell Chaffins and wife Joyce of Pipestem WV, one sister, Brenda Harrison and husband Jim of Marytown, WV, several nieces and nephews, one special friend Kristen Roberts, and her church family.Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, May 18, 2020 at 12 Noon from the Fanning Funeral Home Chapel in Welch WV, with Pastor Melissa Craft officiating; burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV. He was born in Jolo, W.Va. and was the son of the late Joseph Critton "Joda" and Amanda Wimmer Rife. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a disabled miner from Jewell Ridge Coal Corporation. He was a member of UMWA Local #7327 District 17 Jewell Valley, Va. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran having served in the European Theater. He was of the Pentecostal faith and attended the Pisgah Pentecostal Church prior to his illness. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lula Dotson Rife; one daughter, Laura Ilene Rife; two sisters, Gertrude Rife and Gay Hale; and three brothers, Ondas, Willard, and John Ulyess Rife."Survivors are his wife, Ruby Davis Rife; three daughters, Janice Street and husband, Joe of Abingdon, Va., Doris Rife Crawford of Raleigh, N.C., Glenda Jackson and husband, Jim of Pounding Mill, Va.; three sons, Jackie Rife and wife, Patricia of Cedar Bluff, Va., Larry Rife and wife, Sandra of Pounding Mill, Va., Jerry Rife, and wife, Liz of Pounding Mill, Va.; three brothers, Otto Rife of Pineville, W.Va., Hassell Rife of Gary, W.Va., and Ray Rife of Mocksville, N.C.; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
