John was a member of Concord United Methodist Church in Athens. He was an avid sports fan, especially for Big Creek High School, Concord University and WVU. He is survived by one aunt, Millie Gates of Princeton; and several cousins. A private family service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2020 and burial will follow at Athens Cemetery in Athens.
