Bertie was born October 21, 1945 in Elk Creek, Virginia, the daughter of the late Bill and Marie Hurley Rife. Bertie was a devoted Wife and Homemaker, Member of The Ikes Fork Freewill Baptist Church and a loving and caring mother and grandmother who was loved by all. "The men quarreled at lester's home in the little Huff creek farming section Saturday. Lester surrendered after the slaying, saying he shot Payne three times after his father-in-law tried to injure him
