"Opal was born to the late William Riley Estep and Florence Collins Estep in Litwar, WV on January 8, 1930. She was a devoted Christian and loyal member of the Pineville Presbyterian Church. Her faith gave her a strong foundation in life and provided comfort when times were hard."She, along with her late husband Luther and son Jeffrey, were the owners and operators of Pineville Furniture Company. While Luther managed the business, Opal spent her days caring for her husband and three children. Opal always put the needs of her family above her own. Not only was she the most loving mother, she was truly a blessing to her children and they were proud to call her “Mom”.
"In addition to her parents, Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Halsey, sisters Stella Gullett, Thelma Robinette, Flossie Robinette, Alice King, Grace Martin, Elsie Brewster and brothers Willie and Lonnie Estep. Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Jeffrey Halsey and wife Tammy Halsey of Rockview; daughters Terri Muscari and husband Dr. Michael Muscari of Saulsville; and Stacie Cook and husband Scott Cook of Rockview; a brother, Mack Estep and wife Anna of Tennessee; a sister-in-law, Thelma Halsey of Bluefield, West Virginia; and those dearest to her heart, her grandchildren; Kara Halsey-Mitchell, Dr. Zach Halsey, Dr. Kyle Muscari, Dr. Evan Muscari, Cameron Cook, Caden Cook, Garrett Mitchell, and a great grandson who never failed to bring a smile to her face, Talan Muscari. Opal was a loud and proud supporter of her grandchildren in every possible way. She also enjoyed a much- loved extended family.
"Affectionately known to her family as “Big-O,” Opal always had love in her heart and a sparkle in her beautiful gray eyes. A friend of Opal’s remarked that, “when she said ‘I love you,’ she would take a moment to look in your eyes to make sure her words were felt, not just heard.”
"Opal was fortunate enough to be cared for by friends who soon became family including Ginger Cook, Betty Lester, Vanessa Hager, Margie Miller and Phyllis New. They never failed to bring joy to her heart and brighten her days. Nurse Tanya Bailey was always a welcome and comforting friend in times of need. In the last several months, Opal received loving care from the remarkable staff at Wyoming Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Richmond. The family is very grateful to those who for cared for Mom. We love you all.
"A private service will be held at Calfee-Funeral Home in Pineville, West Virginia. Opal will be laid to rest beside her loving husband, Luther, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Beckley, West Virginia. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Pineville Presbyterian Church.
