"Larry Martin Coleman of Havaco, West Virginia, departed this life at Welch Community Hospital on Tuesday, September 24, 2024. Larry was born the only child of the late Howard and Helen Coleman on November 1, 1948."A lifelong resident of McDowell County, Larry was formerly employed be the Welch Daily News, US Steel Mining Co. (#9 Mines) where he earned his prized nickname of “Killer”, and by Welch Antenna/Studio 5. He was a gifted photographer, photographing many weddings, class reunions, and dance recitals for County residents.
"Before age took over and technology passed him by, he was able to fix anything electronic and figured out how anything worked. He enjoyed watching television constantly, some of his favorite shows being Andy Griffith, Murder She Wrote, and Inside Edition.
"In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Luana Flatt Coleman, in 2019. Surviving him are his daughter, Joy Lynn Lamb of Havaco, and his pride and joy, his grandson, Evan James Lamb, also of Havaco. He is also survived by his McDowell Heathcare family, most especially “Larry’s Angels” – Karli Kidd, Amy Chinsolo, Dawn Newcomb and Courtney Gouge.
"The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Milly Vidot and the incredibly compassionate and gifted ICU staff at Welch Community Hospital. Your kindness and understanding will never be forgotten.

"On Easter Sunday, April 9, 1944, Luana Flatt "Lu" Coleman was born in Elbert, West Virginia; the daughter of the late Ewing and Elaine Flatt. On Tuesday, April 2, 2019, Luana gained her angels' wings at Bluefield Regional Medical Center after a lingering illness."After accepting Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age, Luana was a member of the Gary United Methodist Church, where she was the Secretary/ Treasurer of the United Methodist Women for many years. She was a proud Gary Coaldigger, having graduated Salutatorian from Gary High School in 1962. She was last employed by McDowell Mission, Inc as an Office Assistant.
"She enjoyed listening to gospel music, and watching disaster movies and game shows. She was a quiet witness for God, and a true lady. She lived her life with grace and dignity, and God's light shone in everything she said or did. She will be missed forever.
"In addition to her parents and grandparents, she was preceded in death by her brother, David Darrell Flatt and her sister, Alma Jean Burgoyne.
"She is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, Larry Coleman, of Gary; her daughter, Joy Lamb of Havaco; her grandson and joy of her life, Evan Lamb of Havaco; and her beloved sister, Joretta Sue Parker of Enterprise, Alabama. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, as well as her cat, "Puddin".
