"Joseph Wallace Lavender, 67, of 1046 Riverside Drive, Welch, was dead on arrival Monday at a Welch hospital. Born at Wilcoe, he was a son of the late James Kent and Minnie Bouldin Lavender.
He was a veteran of World War II having served with the U.S. Navy and had retired with the U.S. Steel Corp. after serving 42 years."He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Jacquelyn Blair Lavender.
"Survivors: sons, Robert Kent Lavender of Durham, N.C., and Wallace Blair Lavender of Gary; daughter, Jody Sue Lewis of Princeton; brothers, Kenneth Lavender of Princeton and Robert Lavender of Abbs Valley, Va.; sisters, Elsie Hickham of Garden City, S.C., and Mary Lavender of Abbs Valley; and four grandchildren.
"Committal services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Roselawn Memorial Garden Mausoleum Chapel on the Bluefield-Princeton Road with the Rev. Greg Blair officiating, and entombment will follow.
