" Dr. Ernest Malcomb Wilkinson,73, died about 6 a.m. Monday at his home after a long illness. Born March 30, 1899, at McKinney, Va., he was a son of the late Dr. R.E. and Lucy Dole Wilkinson. He was educated at Hampden-Sidney College in Farmington, Va., and was graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in 1923. He was admitted to practice medicine in West Virginia and Virginia and was a member of the Pineville Rotary Club. Dr. Wilkinson began practicing medicine at Dan in McDowell County in 1924 and went to Welch where he was associated with Dr. Harry G. Camper. He came to Pineville in 1935 and practiced medicine until a few months ago. He established the Pineville Maternity Hospital and was a Wyoming County public health doctor. Surviving are his wife, Addie Mae Wilkinson; two sons, Ernest Jr. of Covington, Va., and Richard W. of Bluefield; two brothers, Richard and David Peter, both of McKinney, three sisters, Mrs. James A. (Sally)Williams of McKinney, Mrs. Mary Jane Harris of Richmond, Va., and Mrs. Henry (Martha) Rogers of Welch, and four grandchildren. A brother, William, preceded him in death. "Mrs. E.M. (Addie Mae) Wilkinson, a registered nurse who worked with her physician husband in Pineville for nearly 40 years, and who helped organize the first “hot lunch" program in Wyoming County schools, died Wednesday morning at Bluefield Community Hospital after a long illness. She was 79. Born at Norfolk, Va., she was a daughter of the late Aflred and Addie Whitehurst Johnson.
She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Welch. She assisted her husband, Dr. E. M. Wilkinson, in Pineville until his death in 1972, and had a prominent role in Wyoming County activities throughout that period. She was a charter member and past president of the Pineville Woman’s Club, a past secretary for the Southern District of the Woman's Club and helped organize the first PTA in Pineville. She was a “First Lady of the Year’’ in 1979 of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
Survivors include two sons, Earnest Malcolm Wilkinson Jr., of Covington, Va., and Richard W. (Buzz) Wilkinson of Bluefield; one sister, Mrs. Catherine Gum of Salisbury, Md.; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel in Pineville with Rev. Curtis Cowell and Rev. Margaret Phillimore officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery at Bluewell. Graveside rites will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m."

"R. W. “Buzzy” Wilkinson passed away on Friday, January 15, 2016 at the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina at the age of 83 following a short illness. He was born on November 18, 1932 in Welch, West Virginia and was the son of the late E. M. Wilkinson, M. D. and Addie Mae “Johnson” Wilkinson of Pineville, WV."He is survived by Patricia Ann Hayes Wilkinson; and two sons, Richard Ernest “Rick” Wilkinson and Frank Warren Wilkinson and his wife Gina Butcher Wilkinson of Bluefield, VA. Also three grandchildren Anne Warren Wilkinson, Caroline Pearson Hayes Wilkinson, and Frank Thomas Wilkinson of Bluefield, VA. He is also survived by his brother E. M. Wilkinson, Jr. of Covington, VA.
"He graduated from Greenbrier Military Academy in Lewisburg, WV and then attended the University of Virginia and graduated in 1955. He was an exceptional athlete and became the first basketball player to have his jersey number 14 retired at the University of Virginia. He was also recognized as an All American in 1954 and 1955 and still holds the single season ACC scoring record for averaging 32.1 points per game in 1955. He scored 2,233 points during his college career and is currently third on the University’s all-time scoring list. He also averaged 28.6 points per game for a career and scored 898 points his senior year which is a record as well. He was drafted by the Boston Celtics in that same year.
He was honored on July 25, 2015 at the Sports Legends Reunion at the Beckley Moose Club. They referred to him as the “Jerry West of the University of Virginia.”"He decided to give up a career with the Celtics following a car accident and attended law school at The University of Virginia graduating in 1962. He moved to Bluefield, West Virginia and worked at The First National Bank of Bluefield (now First Century Bank) and had a rewarding banking career that lasted for 50 years. He retired as President and CEO on December 31, 2010. He was still active on the boards of the Bank and Holding Company at the time of his death. His passion was working with people and making the community a better place to live for everyone.
"Buzzy also served as President of the H. I. Shott, Jr. Foundation, as well as, the Ethel N. Bowen Foundation. He was active in many civic organizations and believed in giving of his time for the betterment of the community.

Gene was born on January 23, 1936, and was the son of the late Bertha Jenkins Hubbard and Albert Henry Hubbard."He was a retired Mechanical Contractor having last worked for Harris Mechanical, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the 82nd and 101st Airborne.
"In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael D. Saunders: brothers; Ted, Junior, Jack and Bill: a sister, Virginia Graves, and a grandson; Andy Ridpath.
"He is survived by his loving wife, Rosalee Edwards Hubbard: son; Kelly Gene Hubbard and his wife Sandy: three daughters; Becky Gray, Kathy Ridpath and her husband Frankie, and Terri Hubbard Shelburne and her husband Ron: sisters; Betty Finn, and Peggy Brown and her husband Horace. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; April Ridpath, Eric Gray, Dagan Hubbard, Chris Hubbard, Dylan Meadows, Karly Hubbard, Jake Shelburne, Jessica Shelburne and Jenna Shelburne, and one great grandchild Andrew Shelburne, along with his trusted 13 year old dog Cody.

"David Atwell. 59, of War WV, passed away, Wednesday, December 25, 2019 at his residence. Born November 25, 1960, in War WV, he was the son of the late William and Della Rose Atwell. He had been ill for several years. He loved his wife of 26 years and his children and grandchildren, with all of his heart. Family was everything to him.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by, one brother, Clarence, five sisters, Catherine, Brenda, Linda, Eunice, and Mary.Survivors include, his wife of 26 years, Sandra Atwell of the home, three sons, Travis, David Jr, and Daniel Atwell all of War WV, two daughters, Laura Casson, and Christina Overstreet both of Bedford VA, five Grandchildren, three brothers, Barney Atwell of Newport News VA, Donald Atwell of Ohio, Daniel Atwell of Hanover VA, two sisters, Louise McGhee of War WV, Cleo Shirkey of Rustburg VA.Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 12 Noon from the War Advent Christian Church in War Cove, with Pastor Melvin Muncy officiating; burial will follow at the Atwell Family Cemetery in War Cove.
