"DOROTHY IRENE MILLER
With heavy hearts, we announce the loss of Dorothy Irene Miller, who was called home to rest in the arms of God on Friday, March 21, 2025, at the golden age of 88, after a long and meaningful life. Born in Welch, West Virginia on August 4, 1936, Dorothy was known for her generosity, her strength, and her deep devotion to those she loved.

"Dorothy, lovingly referred to as “Dorty” by many, was a selfless woman who dedicated her life to taking care of others. She worked as a homemaker, cleaning houses for many in the community, and was known for her quick pace and strong work ethic. She gave abundantly, often going without so that others could have, and especially had a heart for children. Quietly and without recognition, she used her own resources to help kids in need, providing everything from clothes, to shelter, or simply a helping hand.

"Honest and deeply respected, Dorothy was known for her integrity. If she gave her word, it was as good as done. She was trusted by her community, and it wasn’t uncommon for her to walk into any store and be extended credit, all because of the reputation she built for herself. She honored her commitments, paid her debts, and lived with quiet dignity.

"Dorothy had a special way of treasuring life’s moments, particularly through photographs. She saw them as keepsakes of the people and memories she cherished, and she made sure her family knew the importance of preserving them even after she was gone.

"Dorothy was a devoted wife to her late husband, Hobert Miller, and her faith in God remained strong throughout her life. She was a regular attendee at Mountain Top Baptist Church, and her love for her family knew no bounds. Dorothy was always ready to sacrifice and protect her loved ones with steadfast loyalty.

"Of all the roles she held, being a mother to her only son, David, was the one she cherished most. Nothing in this world meant more to her. Dorothy gave everything she had to ensure David never went without, putting him first at every turn. Her dedication to raising him with love and care never wavered. Even as David grew into adulthood, she remained a constant presence in his life. David, in turn, loved her deeply, and their bond remained unshakable.

"Dorty’s unwavering love for her son, David, extended wholeheartedly to his children. She cherished her grandchildren, Sarah and Derek, with all her heart, always supporting them in every step of their lives and never missing an opportunity to express how proud she was of them to anyone who would listen. She also shared a close and loving relationship with Sarah and Derek’s mother, Darlene. Dorothy also held a special place in her heart for her great-grandson, Aiden, and was immensely proud of the young man he was growing into.

"Those left to cherish her memory are her son David Miller of Premier WV, Darlene Brooks of Marytown, WV, two grandchildren, Sarah Becker and husband Larry of Keystone, WV, and Derek Miller of Marytown, WV, and one great-grandchild, Aiden Miller of Keystone, WV. One brother, Alan Johnston and wife Wilma of Premier, WV, one sister-in-law, Doris Johnston (wife of the late Clayton Johnston) of Welch, WV, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

"Dorty had an incredibly deep bond with her beloved mother, Hazel Johnston, who was not only a guiding light in Dorothy’s life, but also the one she lovingly cared for in Hazel’s final days. Their connection was one of profound love, and now Dorothy has received the reunion she had yearned for so long, joining Hazel in eternal peace.

"She is also reunited with her father, Raymond Johnston, and her siblings, Clayton Johnston, Thelma Vanover, and Doris Stacy.

"In loving accordance with Dorothy’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. Instead, she will be laid to rest in a private burial surrounded by her family, just as she wanted.

"Dorty was fiercely loved and deeply cared for by her family. Her spunky spirit, quick wit, and kind nature made her unforgettable. She was loved for exactly who she was. In her final days, she was surrounded by love, just as she had given it her entire life. Dorothy leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and selfless giving that will never be forgotten."
