"Herbert Edward “Ebbie” Eanes Sr., 89, of Welch passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.
"He was born on December 1, 1928 to Charles and Mary Eanes at McDowell, WV. Ebbie held several jobs over the years including locksmith, policeman for the Welch Police Department and jail dispatcher. He was voted top businessman of the year in 1975 for Southern Distributors. Ebbiebought D&E Amusement Company in 1980 and sold out to Venco in 1996 where he continued to work until retiring in 2002. He loved to sing and his favorite hymn was “I’ll Fly Away”.
"In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Dorothy June England Eanes; two sons, Herbert Eanes Jr. and Ricky Eanes; and 8 siblings. Ebbie was the baby and last survivor of his family.
"Left to cherish his memory are three daughters whom he was very proud of, Mary “Libby” Waldron and husband George of Welch, Debby Peeryand husband Dennis of Princeton, and Kathy Mullins and husband Hubert “Brownie” of Welch; thirteen grandchildren, Vicki Lynn Eanes, Mickey Ray Ferrell, H. E. “Bubby” Eanes III, Andrew Eanes, Bryan Waldron, Georgie Waldron, Derick Waldron, Kristy Poynter, Lisa Fedele, Bill Fedele, Angela Fedele, Hubert “Brownie, BB” Mullins and Holly Mullins; 18 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
"With declining health Ebbie was doted over and loved by many including two granddaughters Meghan Waldron of Welch and Lisa Fedele of Salisbury, NC; two wonderful caregivers Frances Mullins of Welch and Dina Bryson of Northfork; and his faithful fur baby, Moonshine.
"Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 15, from 6-8 p.m. in the Douglas Mortuary chapel in Welch. Graveside rites will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Brother Steve Ford officiating. Those wishing to go to the cemetery in procession may meet at 9:45 a.m. at the Douglas Mortuary.
