"Lee Roy Belcher, 64, of Logan went home to be with the Lord on Monday June 11, 2007 following a lingering illness. He was born November 18, 1942 to the late Charles and Violet Lowe Belcher of Logan. Also preceding him in death was his two brothers; Erman and Arthur Belcher. He worked fourteen years in the coal mines at Lyburn and then retired from the Logan County Commission. Lee loved going to Whitman Community Church with his wife Carolyn and riding 4-wheelers and taking care of his fish pond. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Carolyn Belcher. Five sons; Anthony, Gary, Larry, Troy and Chico (Cindy) all of Logan and Bryan Workman, his grandson in which he raised like a son. Three daughters; Darlene Workman of Holden, Tammy (Gordon) Thomas on Pineville and Jennifer Belcher of Logan. His grandchildren; Bryan Workman, Gary Jr., Barbie, Justin Belcher, Larry Jr., Prescott, William Belcher, Tyler Sipple, Kaitlyn Thomas, Tee Jaye Thomas, Danielle (Richard) Larkins and Kaitlyn's brother or sister due in October. His twin great-grandchildren, Christian and Laina Thomas. His brothers and sisters; Thurman, Herman, Odell, Bertha, Mary, Dorothy and many nieces and nephews and additional family members. Visitation will be Wednesday June 13, 2007 from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. at the #20 Whitman Community Church. Funeral Services will be Thursday June 14, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at the #20 Whitman Community Church with Rev. Joaquine Ooten officiating. Burial will follow in Guyan Memorial Gardens at Godby. "Claude was born in Davy, McDowell County, West Virginia, the son of Powhatan Barber Martin and Mollie Jane Silcock. His birth date has been recorded as 7 June 1896 according to his World War I Draft record and his SSDI Application shows a birth date of 23 June 1896.Claude was married twice. His first marriage took place on 26 June 1916 in McDowell County to Clara Farley. She was born about 1899 in Giles County, Virginia to John and Linda Farley. Claude married Edith Brumfield sometime between 1920-1930. The 1930 Census shows one child, Charles, who was age 9. It is not known at this time if Charles was the son of his first or second wife. By 1940, the couple had one son, John, who was 7 years of age. Not much is known about these two children.
The 1940 Census is the last record for Claude. There was another Claude A. Martin who was born in West Virginia in 1898 and eventually settled in California. A few researchers believe the two individuals are the same; however, the dates and locations of their birth do not have any similarity.
Claude's death date and location are not known so I have placed him in the same cemetery as Edith because there is a large family headstone in place. It is possible that he was buried there without his own marker. I am related to this family and I welcome any information from researchers and family members alike to complete the information for his death.
