Va., went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center after a long illness."Born April 19, 1924 in Big Creek, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Harless Hicks and Maggie Ann Holbrook Hicks. She was affiliated with the Church of God faith, was a homemaker, and a resident of McDowell County most of her life.
"Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Henry Cleary; one son, James Edward Cleary; one daughter, Lola Mae Slusher; also , several brothers and sisters.
"Survivors include: Five daughters, Sarah Benach and husband Henry of Ringo, Georgia, Patricia Ann Mitchem and husband Ralph of Bluewell, W.Va., Texie Church of Bluewell, W.Va., Millie Smallwood and husband Milton of Kimball, W.Va., Lois Epperly and husband Clay of Landgraff, W.Va.; one son, Charles Edward Cleary and wife Darlene of Brushfork, W.Va.; one sister, Judy Tilley of Tazewell, Va.; 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; several nieces and nephews.

"BRUSHFORK Gladys Evelyn Smith, 37, of Brushfork, W.Va., died Friday, November 5, 2010 at her residence.
Gladys was born September 16, 1973 in Welch, W.Va., a daughter of Charles and Darlene Church Cleary. She was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed life. She loved county music singer, George Jones, and loved working in her flower garden.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Sara Ellen Cleary; grandfather, Roby Allen Church; an uncle, Kenneth Brock; and an aunt, Marie Brock.
Survivors include her husband, Alvin E. Smith, Sr., of the home; her parents, Charles and Darlene Cleary of Brushfork; two sons, Charlie Clemons of Ohio and Alvin Eric "Pik-a-chu" Smith, Jr. of the home; a daughter, Stephanie Trivett of Brushfork; a brother, James Cleary and wife Michelle of Brushfork; and two sisters, Lynn Copley of Princeton, and Melissa Courtner of Brushfork.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, November 8, 2010 at the chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, W.Va. at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Harold Calloway officiating. Burial will follow in the Lockhart Cemetery at Bull Creek near Mohawk, W.Va. Jeff Edwards, Cheyenne Church, Sr. Cheyenne Church, Jr., Paul Hicks, Jeffrey Estep, and Leonard Smith will serve as pallbearers.
