Additional Information:
"Mary "Jane" Elledge was the daughter of Alfred and Elizabeth Rhodes Elledge of Mulberry, Wilkes County, NC. Jane was the 3rd of their 12 children. She married her first cousin, William B. Elledge, a farmer. Their fathers were brothers.
Bill and Jane were the parents of 8 children: 7 daughters-Samantha, Venie, Tippy, Lura, Roxie, Rhoda, and Carolina; and 1 son, William Harrison Elledge.
The family would endure financial woes in the 1890's when Bill and Jane were sometimes unable to make the mortgage payments on their farm or pay taxes. According to a daughter, the family moved to Washington County, Virginia and Eastern Tennessee during the 1890's. However, by the 1900 Federal Census, the Elledges were back in Mulberry, Wilkes County, NC. Bill & Jane stated that they owned their farm free and clear of a mortgage.
In 1912, their daughter Roxie Elledge Bullis became a widow at the age of 25. She moved with her 3 young children into Bill & Jane Elledge's home.
Jane live to the age of 85. She died from a cerebral hemorrhage in 1940 and was buried in the family cemetery. Her obituary appeared in the Greensboro Daily News":"MRS. MARY J. ELLEDGE.
