"Ray C. Hawkins, 78, died of cancer Thursday, Sept. 7, 1989 at his home at 42 Prospect Avenue, Newark, Del.

"Hawkins was born in Grant, Va., on Oct. 4, 1910. He lived most of his life in Newark, and worked at the National Vulcanized Fiber Company until his retirement in 1975 after 35 years of service.

"He was of the Baptist affiliation.

"Hawkins is survived by his wife, Ruth V. McCreary Hawkins, of Newark; a son, Daniel R. Hawkins of Newark; two daughters, June H. Lowe, Elkton, Barbara L. Sumpter, Wilmington; five grandchildren, and three step-grandchildren.

"Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, at Spicer-Millikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark.

"Friends may call at the funeral home Monday after 7 p.m.

"The Rev. Wayne Cothin will officiate.

"Published in the Cecil Whig; Fri., Sept. 8, 1989."

"Ruth V. Hawkins, 81, of Newark, Del., died Thursday, May 7, 1998, of heart failure at Union Hospital.

"Mrs Hawkins was born March 21, 1917, in Grant, Va., a daughter of the late James Brackston McCreary and Claudia P. Murray. She worked for the former Budd Co., in Newark, Del., for 18 years. She worked for the University of Delaware, retiring in 1981. She enjoyed cooking and was known for her cakes. She was a member of First Baptist Church of New Castle for more than 30 years.

"She is survived by a son, Daniel R. Hawkins of Newark; and two daughters, June H. Lowe of Elkton and Barbara L. Sumpter of Newark; three sisters, Anne Civitarese of Severna Park; Dorothy Crowe of North East; and Stella Jackson of Newark; and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

"Her husband, Ray C. Hawkins, died in 1989. A brother, Raymond McCreary, and a sister, Mable Hawkins, died before her.

"The funeral will be held today at 11 a.m. at Spicer-Mullikin and Warwick Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Leeds.
