National Memorial Cemetery of the PacificLance Corporal Sargent was a member of Battery D, 2nd Battalion, 13th Marines, 1st Marine Division. On May 10, 1968, he was killed while fighting the enemy near Ngok Tavak, South Vietnam. His remains were recovered on September 8, 1999 and identified on March 30, 2005. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial."

Reserves,before going into active duty.
He arrived in Vietnam 28 February 1968 on
his 18th birthday and was assigned to Delta
Battery,2nd Battalion,13th Marine Regiment,
1st Marine Division.James died as a result
of multiple fragmentation wounds to the body,
while engaged against hostile forces in the
vicinity of Ngok Tavak,8 kilometers south
southwest of Kham Duc.James's body and that
of other Marines were not recovered.
He was repatriated 8 September 1999 and was
identified 30 March 2005.
Survived by his mother;Izettlie E Sargent and
his sister,Geneva Casey all of Anawalt,WV.
His father,Millard C Sargent was deceased."
