"Richard Jones, 66, of Welch WV, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2016, at Welch Community Hospital in Welch WV. Born March 13, 1949 in Roanoke VA, he was the son of the late Glen and Bessie Lugar Britten Jones. He was a resident of McDowell County the greater part of his life. He retired from the Department of Highways as a heavy equipment operator. He was of the Baptist Faith. He was a graduate of NorthFork high school in 1967; where he held several football records; he attended Bluefield State College on a football scholarship. He loved N.A.S.C.A.R. racing especially Dale Earnhardt. He loved trains and was an avid history buff. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Alfred "Stovepipe" Britton, and his special K-9 companion, Chloe May. Survivors include, his wife of forty three years, Sharon Jones of the home, one daughter, Robin Jones of Princeton WV, whom he referred to as his girls. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, January 11, 2016 at 11 A.M. From the Fanning Funeral Home Chapel in Welch WV, with Pastors Bob Daniels and Robbie Shorter officiating; burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton WV...."
