"Jesse Lee Crabtree, 78, of Beckley, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at the Bowers Hospice House in Cranberry. "Born March 27, 1928, at Marytown in McDowell County, he was the son of the late Mary A. England Crabtree and Girlie F. Crabtree. He enjoyed baseball, attending gun shows and flea markets as well as collecting antique watches. "Mr. Crabtree was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he earned a World War II Victory Medal, having served in the Asiatic Pacific and American Theatres. He was a member of Calloway Heights Baptist Church, a Mason and a member of UMWA District 17. He was employed as a coal miner with Eastern Associated Coal Corp. at the Kopperston No. 2 Mine for 20 years before retiring. He previously worked for General Dynamics in San Diego, Calif., Bell Aircraft in Buffalo, N.Y., and at Kennedy Space Station in Cape Canaveral, Fla. "In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Clar-ence Crabtree, and a sister, Opal Crabtree. "Survivors include his wife, Alice Faye “Sally” Crabtree; a brother, Chester Crabtree and his wife, Maggie, of Thomasville, N.C.; three sisters, Mildred England of Mullens, Letty Jones and her husband,Howard, of Princeton and Barbara Pertee of Virginia Beach, Va.; a stepson, Larry Garten and his wife, Cindy, of Easley, S.C.; and two stepgranddaughters, Hannah and Rebekah Garten of Easley.
