"AREA MEN'S BODIES RECOVERED FROM PLANE WRECKAGE
By Pat Cecil-Bluefield Daily Telegraph Staff Writer"The bodies of two southwest Virginia businessmen who were aboard a Cessna 182T, when it crashed on Clinch Mountain near Abingdon, Va., Friday morning were pulled from the wreckage Sunday, according to a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration.
"The Cessna 182T, piloted by Robert (Buster) Elswick of Richlands, Va., crashed about 10 miles northeast of Abingdon shortly after takeoff from the Richlands Memorial Airport Friday morning at about 9:30 a.m.
"According to officials, Elswick and one passenger identified as Harry C. Harman, Jr., also of the Richlands area, were killed on impact.
"FAA officials said the aircraft was found with the aid of Rescue Coordination Center workers from Scott Air Force Base in Illinois and the Civil Air Patrol early Sunday. A cause for the crash has not been determined Sunday night.
""It will probably be a while before the NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) comes up with a cause", one FAA source told this newspaper.
"Preliminary reports indicated the plane may have been caught in a downdraft. " A downdraft might have stuck him right into the mountain," one official speculated. He said the area was plagued by severe turbulence and head winds Friday.
"Friends notified FAA officials at Mercer County Airport Friday at about 1:30 p.m. that the plane had not arrived in Chattanooga, Tn. as planned.
"Elswick, sources previously said, had failed to file a flight plan which indicated his intended route of travel.
"After a search was started, family members reportedly told FAA workers that they were not worried because it was possible the pilot had been delayed or changed his planned route. A short time later, however, the search was resumed.
"Elswick a Tazewell County coal operator, was expected to meet another coal operator In Chattanooga, according to a FAA spokesman.
"The Virginia State Police and the NTSB are investigating the mishap.

He had an uncanny ability to make people laugh and tell stories that you would never forget. Eric was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, George and Lillian King as well as his maternal grandparents, Dave and Goldie Haynes. He was also preceded in death by several aunts and uncles. Those left to cherish the memories are his parents, Reverend Russell and Frances King of Iaeger. Also left to carry on his name and heritage was his pride and joy, his son, Elliott King of Mount Sterling, Kentucky. He has one sister, Theresa Tolliver of Iaeger. A nephew and his wife, Chris and Courtney Riffe of Iaeger. A niece, Chelsea Riffe of Iaeger. And one great-nephew, Grayson Riffe of Iaeger. He also has a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
