"CALHOUN, STEWART A. He was born in August 1897 in Keystone the son of Allen Calhoun. His father had built a home in Keystone and held excessive real estate there.

"Stewart attended West Virginia Teachers College, Bluefield State Teachers College and received his law degree from Howard University Law School, Washington, DC.

"In the late 1920's he served two terms as Keystone City Attorney and in 1930 was elected to the West Virginia Hou·se of Delegates for two successive terms.

"From 1925 to 1965 he practiced law in Keystone. January 1943 he was named assist~nt prosecuting attorney under Judge Jack A; Marinari. He served thirty two years.

"He married Goldie Oliver of Welch. She died October 31, 1944.

"1965 he was a member of the Democratic state executive committee. He was an active member of the Elks Lodge, past exalted ruler-of the Keystone local lodge, a member of the West Virginia and McDowell bar associations, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and the Mount Chapel Baptist Church of Keystone.

"His second wife was named Celestial. His children were Harold 0., Chicago, IL; Allen D., New York; Mrs. Celestial Owens, Wheeling and Mrs; Carole Harris,-Charleston. His sister was Mrs. Thelma Perkins, New York and his brothers Burnice, Bluefield, VA and Alfred, Detroit, MI.

"He died Friday November 19, 1965 in Harold's home in Chicago while attending the funeral of his sister, Mrs. Ola Hammond. He was buried at Maple Wood Cemetery, Tazewell, VA.

"In 1974 his name was placed on a plaque honoring noted Welch attorneys. She resides in Keystone.

"Son Harold was born in Keystone and graquated from Kimball High School. He received his B.A. ?egree fro!11 Ohio University, Athens, OH and 1n 1950 his law degree from Howard University, Washington, DC.

"January 1,1955 to June 1, 1957 he was a member of the legal ·division of the state workmen's compensatiqn department. He served as legal ·technician. and trial examiner .

June 1957 he opened a·Iaw office in the Vicks building in: Welch.· He later moved to Chicago, IL where he is special council and trial attorney for the US Department of Justice Immigration and Naturalization Service.

"His son Walter .S.tewart·was born in 1958 at Stevens Clinic Hospital in Welch. He attended New Trier High school, Wesleyan College, Middletown CT· and in June 1983 graduated from the University of Michigan Law School, Ann Arbor, Ml.

"July 1983 he took his Illinois bar examination. He is an associate member of the Chicago law firm of Jacobs, Williams and Montgomery. They specialize in insurance law.

"November 4, 1984 daughter Celestial married Deacon Samuel L. Johnson of Kimball. She was given in marriage by her daughters Carole Ferrell and Celestial Pegram, both of Charleston. His brother James R. Johnson, Bluefield, was best man Thev reside in Kevstone."
