"...Sarah Collins Robinett is found on the McDowell Co. 1870 census living in the household of BENJAMIN and Susan Riffe Collins, not Alexander (Series: M593 Roll: 1694 Page: 488). Alexander is the next oldest child in the household."This agrees with the Collins/Riffe saga as my grandmother (Chloe Belle Addair) told it to me - Sarah, who my grandmother referred to as Sally Robinett, was the daughter of Susan Riffe and an unknown man, and was born in Portsmouth. Susan's marriage to Benjamin Collins came later, and evidently he adopted her, or she took his name. Rodney Veitschegger evidently sent you the same story - he specified "John Hammond" as Sarah's father. My grandmother didn't tell me that, and I don't know if she knew it. She did tell me that Susan Riffe was very beautiful..."
