He was a United States Army Veteran, a retired coal miner, and a former employee of the McDowell County Board of Education. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son Olaf Smith, six brothers, Virgil, Holley, Woodrow, Robert, Jake, and Caleb Smith, Jr; and four sisters, Goldie Click, Rosa Rowe, Lola Addair, and Delilah Kennedy. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 62 years, Patsy Smith of the home; two sons, Raymond Smith and wife Crystal of Pounding Mill, VA, and Darrell Smith and wife Jennifer of Jolo, WV; one daughter, Clarsie Smith of Pounding Mill, VA; one brother, Frank Smith of Peterstown, WV; six grandsons, Brian, Scottie, Jason, Brandon, Caleb and Anthony Smith; one granddaughter, Angela Ratliff; eight great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at 1 o'clock with Reverend Michael Brooks officiating at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, WV. Burial will follow in the Caleb Smith Cemetery at Rockridge near Paynesville, WV, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post #175 and VFW Post# 1144...."

"Myrtle Beach, SC — It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce the death of Howard William Cline Jr., 65, who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on April 2, 2017. Howard lived life to the fullest in every aspect. He was married to his childhood sweetheart and together they were an unstoppable team. They had 35 years together while raising three daughters, one adopted granddaughter, and an adopted son before Connie lost her battle with cancer.

"Howard was involved in many business adventures in his life ranging from coal mining, truck driving and the mobile home transport business. He was a skilled businessman and had an unshakable positive personality. He lived in many different states including: WV, FL, IN and SC. He developed many lifelong friends wherever he went. He was always proud of his friendships and valued them dearly. Later he and his wife of 8 years Deborah A. Cline of Princeton were fortunate enough to meet, fall in love and get married; they enjoyed traveling, and their time spent with family during his semi-retirement and later settled in Myrtle Beach, SC. Howard had a love of flying, enjoyed being with family, country music, good food and loved God.

"Howard was born in Welch, WV on April 14, 1951 to the late Howard William Cline Sr. (1922-1979) and Wanda Matney-Cline (1926-1995). In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Connie Cline (Deceased); two brothers, Tony Cline (Deceased) and Charles Cline (1948-1948); maternal grandparents, Alford Matney (1901-1992) and Tillie Testerman-Matney (1908-1982); and paternal grandparents, John McCreery "J.C." Cline (1885-1970) and Lucy Jane Perry-Cline (1882-1966).

"Harry Switch, 94, of Welch WV, passed away Friday, February 8, 2019 at Westwood Rehabilitation Center, Bluefield VA. Born September 26, 1924 in Eckman WV, he was the son of the late Paul and Mary Tydaschuk Switch.
He was a proud veteran of World War II and one of the last veterans of WWII in Welch; serving in the U.S. Marine Corps 1st Marine Division in the Pacific Theater; Okinawa, and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was retired from U.S. Steel Mining Operations at the Gary Preparation Plant as shift foreman and at Pinnacle Preparation Plant as Superintendent; retiring in 1982. He was actively involved in the community as a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6180 of Welch WV; and a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Assembly of Princeton WV. He was a member of the American Legion Post 38 Gary, the Veterans of Foreign Wars post 8413, and the Disabled American Veterans chapter 56 of WV. He was a member of St Peter Catholic Church and a resident of Welch for fifty-eight years. He served on the Board of Directors for the Welch Gas Co-Op
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by, one daughter, Sharon Blackburn, sisters, Anne Beront, Ethel Dillon, Julia Herring, Stella Lambert, brothers, Frank Perfin, Lee Switch, John Switch, Mike Switch, Steve Switch, Paul Switch. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Survivors include, his loving wife of 69 years Anna Hornick Switch, of the home, three daughters, Mary C. Cook and husband Carl of Narrows VA, Barbara Baker and husband Sam of Princeton WV, Judy Inscore and husband Jackie of Clayton N.C., one son in law, W. Douglas Blackburn Jr of Richmond VA., six grandchildren, W.D. Blackburn III, Kelly Charles, Denise Carvalho, William Larry Lockhart Jr, Benjamin Baker and Madalyn Grose, great grandchildren, Victoria, Brittany Hannah, Maksim, Abigail, Mateus, and Baker; and a host of nieces and nephews.
