"Elbert was the son of Morgan and Eliza Ann Salyer Slone. He married Bessie, the daughter of Tilden and Rose Anna Ratliff Swiney. The couple were the parents of Willard and Ample Slone. At the time of his 1917 WWI Draft registration, Elbert was working as a farmer. Many times, after the harvest, men would begin to work for the coal companies, as miners, until it was time to plant the fields in the spring. This may have been his situation, or he may have elected to change occupations. Either way, Mr. Slone was working as a coal miner and was killed, in a mining accident, by falling slate."

Hensdill Kessinger, 79, of 137 Lynwood Circle, Princeton, formerly of Athens and Panama City Beach, FL, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at her residence surrounded by her loved ones. Nellie was born on November 8, 1934 in Iaeger, WV to the late Octavia Lockhart “Pom Pom” Hensdill and William Jennings “Bill” Hensdill.
Nellie graduated from Athens High School and studied Home Economics at Concord University. She raised her children in Athens where she also cared for her parents. Later in life she resided in Panama City Beach, FL where she cared for her grandchildren, nephew, and sister. Nellie was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and caregiver.
In addition to her parents, Nellie is preceded in death by one sister, Beatrice Ball and her husband Jack and their son Gene; two brothers, Louie Hensdill and wife Dorothy and their sons, Ronnie and Billy, and baby brother Kelly Hensdill; one son-in-law, Larry Hurst; and two grandsons, Joshua Keith Hurst and Christopher Nicholas White. Survivors include one son, Ted Kessinger and wife Tracy of Princeton with whom she made her home; three daughters, Linda Hurst of Sandlick Road, Brenda McCormick and husband Michael of Panama City Beach, FL, and Terri Kessinger of Speedway; six grandchildren, Amanda Hurst, Stephanie White, Kara Bishop and husband Joshua, Kaylin Kessinger, Taylor Kessinger, and Madison Stultz; two great-grandchildren, Kaiya and Kenlee; and one brother, Donnie E. Hensdill and wife Billie of Abingdon, VA and their children, Lynne and Kenny.
In keeping with Nellie's wishes her body has been cremated. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Devin Olachea officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until the service hour on Saturday. Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton is serving the Kessinger family."
