"OCEANA - Nicholas "Nick" Scott Abbott 28, departed this life Wednesday, August 10, 2011, due to an accidental drowning."Born February 23, 1983, in Beckley he was the son of Rev. Harrison Abbott and Nancy Grubb-Abbott.
"Nick was a 2001, graduate of Oceana High School, a member of Guyandotte Baptist Church, and a coal miner. He loved the outdoors, four wheeling, hunting, fishing, dirt bikes, collecting knives, shooting guns, and being the mountains. But most of all he loved and enjoyed being with his family.
"He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Harrison Abbott (1924-Deceased).
"Those left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife, Sabrina Stokes-Abbott of of Oceana; his parents, Rev. Born April 16, 1950 at his home in Mullens, he was the son of the late Oran Winton and Mildred Marie Laverty McKinney."Pat graduated from Pineville High School in 1968 and Morris Harvey College in December 1971. While in college he enjoyed singing in the choir. During his career he was an insurance adjuster, riverboat bargeman, industrial electrician, UMWA pension administrator, school teacher at Pineville High School and at Pineville Middle School. He retired in 2010. Pat loved living and working his farm at Key Rock where he raised Rockcastle Newfoundland dogs. He also had horses, goats, chickens, other dogs, cats, bees and a donkey. He was and avid gardener, carpenter, electrician, guitarist, singer and song writer.

She was born in West Virginia and was a daughter of the late James Oswald and Ella Wheeler Bird.
She was a former resident of the Berwind Briquet Camp section in Berwind. She was a lifelong Christian, was a former member of the Berwind United Methodist Church and a member of the Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church in Bluefield, Va. She was also a past member of the Order of Eastern Star."She was the wife of the late Ralph Kellis Canterbury Sr., and sister of the late Paul Kenton Bird.
"Survivors include two sons, Ralph Kellis Canterbury Jr. of Damascus, Ark. and Richard Norris Canterbury of the residence, 313 Hillcrest Dr., Bluefield, VA 24605-1601; two daughters, Linda Kay Canterbury Cox of Murfreesboro, Tenn. and Rena Haynes Gibson of Chincoteague Island, Va.; two sisters, Clarice Mildred Bird Cook of Martinsville, Va. and Eula Faye Branson of Beckley; eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

"Donald Ray Barton, age 59 of Princeton, WV died Thursday, January 19, 2017 at his home. He was born July 15, 1957 at Richlands, VA and was a son of the late Evans and Alice Robinette Barton. He was a 1975 Graduate of Big Creek High School and had worked for several years as a Coalminer with CONSOL; he was a member of the UMWA Local #2322 at Amonate, VA. Mr. Barton attended Conerstone Family Church in Princeton, WV. He was a man who loved to ride his Harley and play the guitar."In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Anthony Ray Barton.
