"Bishop Izalliar Brogdon Dalton, a life long resident of Thorpe, WV, who departed this life and received her eternal reward on Sunday, November 29th at Welch Community Hospital."Bishop Dalton was born on December 14, 1951 and the daughter of Benjamin P. Brogdon, Sr. and Nannie Edward (Joyce) Brogdon. She was one of six children and grew up in a loving Christian home, where good soul food and soulful music could always be found.
"She was educated at Gary District High School in Gary, WV, and a 1969 graduate. She always had great business skills and enjoyed learning new things. Her contagious smile and sweet ways were embraced by her classmates and the school staff.
"She married Charles Dalton, Jr. and to their passionate union a daughter, Wendy Michelle Dalton was born. Being a wife and mother meant so much to her life.
"She attended Little French Beauty Academy and always enjoyed doing hair. She was employed many years as a cook at the McDowell County Board of Education, Billy Boy’s Pizza and Stevens Clinic Hospital. Her employment career continued, as she worked at Welch Community Hospital from 1985 as an Office Assistant 2, later as an Admissions’ Receptionist and Accounting Technician 3 in the Accounts Payable Department. She retired in July 2016 after 31 years of dedicated service. She was also a notary for the State of West Virginia.
"She was baptized and accepted the Lord at an early age. She was mentored by the late Bishop Arnie Joyce. She cherished the memories of the old green church bus and the red choir robes they wore as they traveled all over McDowell County lifting up the name of Jesus. She served under Bishop Arnie Joyce and Overseer P. D. Kellum, and was among the first they anointed to play the piano. She later taught others.
"Bishop Dalton was a member of Miracle Mt. Carmel Holiness Church of God, where she was active with the Missionary Department, taught Sunday School for 23 years, was a volunteer Church Videographer, member of both the praise team and choir, also played the bass guitar and the drums. She faithfully served as an Associate Minister. From the onset, she had served as Church Secretary, Program Committee, confident prayer warrior, and her most favorite position was being the Janitor.
"Bishop was a member in good standing of the Holiness Church of God, Inc. She absolutely loved and cherished this organization and throughout the years, had held many offices.
"Bishop Dalton was the Overseer of the Virginia/West Virginia District. She faithfully served for 28 years as Vice President of the Holiness Church of God Y.P.H.A, for 46 years she was the President of the Miracle Mt. Carmel Missionary Department, and for 43 years served as President of the Education Department. She served for 34 years as President of the Virginia/West Virginia District Missionary Department, and was the Assistant Superintendent of the MMC Church Sunday School for 17 years and taught Sunday School for 23 years. She served on the S. M. Caesar Scholarship Fund for 12 years. The past six years, she served as a dedicated member of the HCOG Elders’ Board. She served two years as Secretary of the HCOG Elders’Board and was appointed as Bishop in 2018. She was very excited as she celebrated 50 years of Ministry this year!
"Bishop Dalton was a “Praiser.” Irregardless to her life’s trials or struggles, she could be found worshiping and praising God; through a song, a holy dance, or by clapping her hands.
"She used her gifts and talents to uplift others. Her many talents included singing, playing the piano, playing the organ, and even beating the tambourine, along with her cowbell. She loved people and loved serving others. She visited nursing homes, sang at funerals on her lunch break, served as a substitute Mom for those whose mothers had passed, served as a role model for the young ladies, and served as a missionary by cooking/serving food or giving money to those in need. Her favorite charity was St. Jude’s and she supported it consistently.
"She had many spiritual children as she enjoyed taking care of people both family and non-family. She was compassionate and never hesitated to help someone in need.
"Bishop Dalton was a recording artist. She would sing at any time anywhere, even standing in the middle of the street. She had an anointing that flowed when she sang. Yokes were removed and burdens were destroyed whenever she sang. She was not selfish with her beautiful gift. She used it when she visited churches regardless of denomination, and even homes when people were sick to sing to them.
"Her favorite gospel performer was Pastor Shirley Caesar and her favorite music was gospel quartet. Her top favorite groups: Pastor Tim Rogers & the Fellas, Jarell Smalls & Co., and Doc McKenzie and the Hi-Lites. She was talented and anointed enough to travel anywhere, but she chose to stay local and serve her Community and Church.
"Her hobbies included taking Bible correspondence classes, she was a cherished Bible scholar and even held phone Bible study during the pandemic with her family. She also enjoyed baking sweet potato and egg custard pies, making pasta salad, macaroni and cheese, and shopping for big Church hats.
"She had one child, but was a Mother to and held a special bond with all of her nieces and nephews, even though their parents are still alive.

Brogdon, Jr., (Lillian Shelton Brogdon), Lewis O. Brogdon, Sr. Brother in law, Charles Mitchell, Sr. Her maternal grandparents, Robert and Ida (Kellum) Joyce. Uncle John Moore, Oakley Dalton, Bobby Stewart, Tony Dalton, and a host of other uncles, aunts, and cousins.
"She leaves her legacy and precious memories to her brother Deacon Robert E. Brogdon Sr. of Thorpe, WV, (Helen), her sister Grace A. Craighead (James) of Bluefield WV, Prophetess Earleen R. (Williams) Brogdon of National Harbor MD, and her sister Elder Bonita G. Mitchell of Bluefield WV. Her aunts, Mother Lottie Joyce Patricia Joyce, and Peggy Moore. Brother in law, Ronnie Dalton (Priscilla). Sister- in-laws: Carolyn Stewart Wilson, Lana Faye Dalton, Robin Stewart Ransaw, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church acquaintances, and friends.
"A very heartfelt thanks to her special cousins, Deacon Weldon(Teresa) Thomas, Minister Doris Young, and Elder Anthony Bell for their love, support, and encouragement.
"Blessed are they which die in the Lord for they shall rest from their labor and their works do follow them. Bishop Dalton will be greatly missed but has gone to walk around heaven, sweeping through that city and getting her just reward from a just God.
