"Born in Wythe County, "Rhudy" was the son of Giles and Ida Hicks Richardson. He had made his home in War WV for most of his life. He passed away at the age of 85 in a Tazewell VA. hospital. He was a graduate of Big Creek High School. He was a veteran of the US Air Force serving in the European Theater of WWII. He was a retired miner, being employed with OLGA corporation of Caretta WV as a hoist operator. He was a member of UMWA Local Union 6026 of Caretta. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in War WV. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Florine Odell Ray Richardson on July 15, 2006. Survivors include sons Jerry and Dennis Richardson."

"WAR - Florine Odell Ray Richardson, 87, of the Warriormine section of War, went to be with the Lord Saturday, July 15, 2006 in a Princeton area hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born in Russell County, VA and was the daughter of the late Joel F. & Pearl Honaker Ray, both Warriormine natives. Florine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, her number one priority in life was caring for her family. She was inclined to collect recipes and then would delve into her passion for cooking, she also spent time sewing and quilting and piddling around in her flower garden. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of War and was a lifetime resident of the Warriormine section of War. In addition to her parents, she had four brothers, James, Chester, Bill and Estil Ray and one sister, Margaret Boyd, that preceded her in death. Survivors include her loving husband of 60 years, Rudolph "Rudy" H. Richardson of Warriormine; her two sons, Jerry G. Richardson & wife, Lois Ann of Claypool Hill, VA, and Dennis R. Richardson & wife, Donna Gail of Tazewell, VA; four sisters, Zola Boyd, Ruth Pack, Betty Hayes and Peggy Deel, all of Warriormine; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many friends and family also survive her. Funeral services for Florine Odell Ray Richardson will be conducted Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Tazewell with the Brother Walker Goad officiating. Interment will follow at the Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Tazewell today from 7 until 9 p.m. Hurst-Scott Funeral Home of Tazewell is serving the Keen family.

"Douglas E. Hawkins, 78, of War, a giant of a man, passed away peacefully Monday, May 1, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
"He was born July 14, 1938 in Castlewood, Va. to the late Ruby Lee Hall Hawkins. He was a retired electrician and foreman for Consol Coal Company. He was involved in his community, especially activities for children.
"Douglas was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time restoring his antique cards and working his garden. He was not only devoted to his own family, but also the neighborhood kids.
"In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by a sister Arwood Fletcher; two brothers John D. Hawkins and Dillard E. Hawkins; and a granddaughter, Sami Dane Brown.
"Doug is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patty Lu Cordisco Hawkins of War; two daughters, Paige Beam and husband Ron, and Beth Stutso all of Bristol, TN; one son , Pete Douglas Hawkins of War; 4 grandchildren, Peyton and Patrick Beam of Bristol, TN, Kaleb Hawkins of War, and Sofia Stutso of Bristol; and a great grandchild Piper Beam Fleenor of Bristol; two sisters, Linda Furman of NC and Dixie Hawkins of FL; and several nieces and nephews.
