"Emma A. Butler Hampton of Roderfield, WV passed peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus on Thursday, November 18, 2021. After a short but brave and courageous battle, her soul now rests with God as her body waits the second coming of Christ.

"Born October 12, 1931 in Thacker, WV, she was the loving and caring daughter of the late Samuel and Maxie Butler of Iaeger, WV.

"In 1952, she married and is survived by her spouse, Luther J. (Jimmy) Hampton, Jr. For nearly 70 years, both Emma and Jimmy claimed the other as the love of their life, soulmates, best friends, dancing partners, business associates, travel companions, and so much more. Independent in their personal interests and favorite hobbies, they always stood united as one in their faith in Jesus, family, community and every life decision. Played on WELC for years as the theme song of their business was "Never Ending Song of Love for You" which best describes the happy, joyful and memorable days they spent enjoying life's simplest pleasures like a cup of coffee, a blooming rose, a walk in fallen leaves or a dance at suppertime when they were alone in the kitchen.

"Emma, not only lived her life devoted to Jimmy, she dedicated her entire being to her two children. From their cradle to her last day, she committed her love, words, actions, thoughts, and prayers to her two surviving children Kathy Hampton Daniels of New Albany, OH and James Michael (Mike) Hampton of Douglasville, GA. She gave her children wings and the tools to soar; she was never possessive but always readily available with loving arms, tender kisses, listening ears, comfort food, non-judgmental solutions to problems, wise discernment, and the time to pray for her children. She welcomed Kathy's late husband Joe and Mike's lovely wife BJ into her family as her own and kept them as close to her heart as she did Kathy and Mike.

"A few of Emma's last words speaks volumes to her real treasures in life as she said, "I love the children." The children were her shining stars, her reasons for staying young at heart, for continuing to sing and dance, to be their examples of "what Jesus would do." She loved unconditionally with no strings attached; she wanted the children to have the best life could offer but also the reward of eternal life in Christ. Those grandchildren and spouses along with the great grandchildren included grandson Matthew Daniels(Jennifer) of Metamora, OH and their six children, Joe, Maria, James, Luke, John and Samuel, Emma's father's namesake.
Granddaughter Kaitlin Daniels Nourse (Lucas) of Louisville, KY and their three children, Emma's namesake, Emma Joyce , Elliana Louise, Knox and coming soon baby number four.
Grandsons Jarrod Michael Hampton of Douglasville, GA.
Joshua Fulson and Tristan Beymer of Hudson CO.
William Fulson (Breanne) of Winston, GA and their two children Loudon and Liam.
All the grands and greats called, visited, and loved their Nana faithfully. With an abundance of energy, bright smiles, and deepest affection, Kaitlin spent days helping and attending to her Nana's every need.

"One of seven children, Emma pledged her loyalty and friendship to her siblings and their spouses. Left to cherish her memory is sister Mabel and husband Phil Bailey of Elkview, WV, brother-in-law Jack Hall of Welch, WV and sister-in-law Emma Lou Butler of Bluefield, VA.
Jimmy's brothers and sisters-in-law became her extended family. Edward and Colleen Hampton of Hagerstown, MD, David and Sandy Hampton of Newport News, VA and Jenny Hampton of Roderfield, WV.

"Proceeding her in death were sisters Louise, Betty(Joe) Subrick, Katherine (Joe) Pierce and brothers Sammy Butler and Frankie Butler. Brother-in-law Donald Hampton.

"Surviving nieces, nephews and spouses are many: Danny(Ann) Butler, Robbie Butler, Vicki Throckmorton, Patty Shermat, Joey (Lisa) Pierce, Mary Katherine Hampton, Donnie(Maryann)Hampton, Fran Hampton, Cheri(Gene) Farmer, Debbie(Chris)Sadler, Cindy(Bobby) Thurber, Denise(Rich)Barnes, Brian (Vickie)Hampton. Late nephews: Jimmy Fields, Billy Butler, Timmy Butler.

"Many great nieces and great nephews are left to cherish her memory.

"Forever a first-class lady who epitomized grace and dignity, Emma lived a very full life sharing love with many friends, customers and acquaintances. She faithfully prayed for many and gave generously and unselfishly. Emma befriended numerous people in her life and witnessed to a multitude of souls in her gentle way. She was a light, and she wanted the world to know that Jesus was real and her Savior.

"Always active, she started as a child building the heating fires in her coal camp church, following Girl Scout promises, singing solos for church and community. She passed as the oldest founding member of Calvary Baptist Church and the oldest member of the choir. She taught Sunday School for years, sang for her church and community events and supported local schools; she was charitable to individuals and many causes.

"She was Co-Owner of Jimmy's Super Market, Jimmy's Hardware, Jimmy's Furniture and Appliances. She was known as a kind employer and one of the hardest workers in the business.

"Emma was a member of Eastern Stars, a Rebecca, a Lady Shriner, and a member of the Calvin Hayes Circle. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and a strong advocate for the military. She graduated from Iaeger High School, where she was a majorette and captain of the Girls' Basketball team long before there was organized sports for women. She was always a forward thinker and often quoted, "Age is only a state of mind." She maintained lifelong friendships from childhood and was always adding to that list. She had an insatiable desire to help others and pay forward her blessings.

"Many thanks to the doctors, nurses, caregivers, family, friends and prayer warriors for loving Emma into heaven.

"In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, Iaeger, WV and Shriner's Hospital for Children.

"Visitation and services to be held at Calvary Baptist Church, Iaeger, WV. Visitation to be 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, November 22, 2021 with funeral at 11 a.m., Tuesday, November 23, 2021 Interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery, Bluewell, WV. Douglas Mortuary to manage services."
