"Susan Matney, 57, of Panther, WV, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at her residence following a long illness."Susan was born December 4, 1963 in Welch, WV, a daughter of Mildred Mitchell Blankenship and the late Joe Blankenship. She was a member of the Panther Missionary Baptist Church in Panther where she was a Sunday School Teacher. She was a caretaker in the Panther for several years.
"In addition to her father, Joe Blankenship, Susan was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Mary Mitchell and her paternal grandparents, GB and Mae Blankenship.
"Survivors include her husband, Jackie Matney of the home; one daughter, Kim Blankenship of Panther; one grandchild C.J. Compton of Panther; three brothers, Terry (Sandra) Blankenship, Russell (Deleana) Blankenship and Joe (Lora) Blankenship all of Panther; three nephews, Terry (Santana) Blankenship, Dock New, and Joshua Blankenship all of Panther; two nieces, Jodi (DJ) Justice of Panther and Brandi Blankenship of Bluefield, WV.; and one great niece, Alyssa Blankenship.
"Funeral services will be conducted Saturday morning, December 12, 2020 at 11 o’clock with Reverend John Hunt officiating at the Panther Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Blankenship Cemetery at Panther. Terry Blankenship, Russell Blankenship, Joe Blankenship, Terry Blankenship Jr., DJ Justice and Joey Hagerman will serve as pallbearers.
"Friends may visit with the family at the Panther Missionary Baptist Church Friday evening December 11, 2020 after 6 p.m.
"Services will be held in accordance with Covid-19 guidelines, mask are to be worn by all attending and social distancing is to be practiced.
