"Rosie Lynn Childress, 57 of Gary, West Virginia passed away Monday, August 30, 2021 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. She was born on February, 21, 1964 in Welch, WV and was one of eight children to the late Wheeler “Steward” Childress and Elder Willie Mae Childress. She was a 1984 graduate of Mount View High School and the McDowell County Vocational School. There she participated in the Future Home Makers of America (FHA), Hand Jive Club, Pep Club, Wrestling Club and enjoyed sewing classes. She accepted Christ early in her life and eventually became a member of Havaco Missionary Baptist Church in Havaco, West Virginia. She was a recent retiree from the McDowell County Public Schools, where she worked for 32 years spreading love to all the children she served. She was well known for her homemade rolls, ham biscuits, pizza rolls, etc. She enjoyed shopping and spending time with her family. She had the biggest smile and a bigger heart. She was ready and willing to help anyone she came in contact with, the true definition of “A Heart of Gold.”"She is preceded in death by her parents Wheeler “Steward” Childress and Elder Willie Mae Childress. Six siblings Mildred Childress, Carolyn Hunter, Ulysses Childress, Edna Lester, Johnny H. Murrell, Alvin Murrell: Two aunts, Thelma Davis and Virginia Ware Anthony.
"Left to cherish her memory are her children Quintina M. Childress, of Bluefield, WV, Deanna L. Childress and Jonathan M. Childress of the home, three grandchildren Allyssa M. White, Willie N. Childress and Zoey R. White of Bluefield, West Virginia, sisters Priscilla A. (Ronald) Dalton of Gary, West Virginia. Norma J. Childress, of Fairbanks Alaska, and Kay M. (Larry) Edwards of Bluefield, West Virginia. She is also survived by her God children, Geree, Malcolm, and Gezelle Brown “special son” James “BooBoo” Mullins and a host of nieces and nephews and very special friends Shirley Porterfield, Rev. William Spencer, Vernon Carrington and Donal Hastings, special friend, Robert Jeffries and her Mount View High School and Welch Elementary School families.
"A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 10, 2021 at Havaco Missionary Baptist Church located at 609 Havaco Dr. Welch, West Virginia with Reverend Kenneth Orr officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Bluefield, WV. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
